Harbingers of spring responded to one of the warmest starts to spring on record. It was easy to say "It was the earliest I have seen......." as trees, flowers and animal migrations reacted to unseasonably warm temperatures. Along with the warm temperatures many communities face low water supplies as the lack of snow-cover reduces spring runoff to reservoirs. Across the country dry underbrush fuels concerns of an early fire season. Already many areas are responding to an unprecedented amount of brushfires as fire indexes climb. Every green thing around here is way ahead of schedule. The oats are almost ready to harvest, the winter wheat, ditto, and there are a couple of coastal bermuda grass fields that will be cut for hay before the end of the month. Even the pecans leafed out early (they are some of the last trees to get leaves around here). Meteorologists are predicting a very hot summer for Texas. I don't worry about that--just enjoy the gorgeous weather while we have it. Bless their hearts, the folks that are gardening for the first time at the community garden think this is normal!
It's doing great things for my garden. I have tomatoes growing, snap peas ready for picking, buds on zucchini and beans and peppers. The grass and weeds are doing very well! I like this warm weather. I think we had a great winter, No Snow! The summer will be hot but it's better than freezing weather. I like it myself. dooley
Hmph we're having weather that's more like winter than spring. So far we've had snow, hail, sleet, gales and torrential rain but very little in the way of sunshine. There's no shortage of water here in Scotland that's for sure.
