We recently saw this lovely cow, which many would mistake for a longhorn. This is a Watusi--very large, very gentle, can be used for plowing, milking, or (shudder) eating. I'd love to be the first kid on my block with a Watusi or two!

WOW those horns are something else!! I've only seen Watusi in safari parks over here. I'm glad they're docile as I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that headgear.

I agree with Eileen, don't want to be on the wrong end of those. Glad to hear they are docile creatures. Does one of your neighbors have these?

Magnificent-looking animal. I like cattle, and this one looks quite impressive.
    Amazing headgear.

I was expecting to see Longhorns playing games... like in the Olympics or something! :D

I have heard of these, but haven't seen one "in person".

Beautiful cow. He (or she?) looks rather regal in that pose.

I quite sure the University of Texas is not about to change their mascot and put Bevo out of a job at football games. It is an impressive beast, thick horns!

    Glad y'all like the Watusi!
Carolyn, I wish the Watusi were in our neighbor's pasture! I'd be over there with treats and soft words, trying to get the cow to follow me home.
Cheryl, why don't we get up a longhorn olympics? We could have the cow pat toss, fencing, 200 yard dash to the waterhole, and high jump over the fence into the next pasture.

Wow, those are some really impressive horns. I have seen other Watusi's before and can tell you that it's horns will get a lot bigger. They are a really impressive animal. One other thing you could add to your longhorn olympics is competition where you judge the best Watusi dancer. :D

Regarding the olympics at the youth event that I go to every year we DO have BARNYARD olympics.. And trust me, when we get we farm kids are pretty dang hard to stop.. One year we had to fence in an entire acre.. The event was judged on time and on strength.
