At -20 F. our electric went off at 6 am and stayed off for 30 minutes. But with the wood burner we were toasty warm. The only bad thing was no fans to help distribute it to other rooms!
We have one of those silent woodstove fans that sits on top of the wood stove. It runs on the heat of the woodstove. It doesn't blow a lot of heat around, but it does help.
Capt, I was thinking the exact same thing this morning except we still have electricity... (I am thankful for that because my greenhouse is mainly heated by a 220 electric heater) But my gas furnace keeps coming on at these temperatures. My thermometer read -21 this morning.
