I hate the mess that happens when I make the numerous Thanksgiving pies and desserts. But at least my family thinks the result is worth it! The apple pie is in the oven and I haven't made the brownies yet.
I went to Baby Sis's house. So I brought deviled eggs and peanut butter pie-went fast. Had great time.
Ronni, I can so relate to the mess while baking. The pies look delicious! Wishes for a wonderful time with your family today.
Yummm.... I can smell them all the way here! I didn't do any baking this year.It was just us... and I promised myself to cut back on the sweets this holiday season. Plus, with doing the turkey in the oven, I knew I wasn't going to want to bake after dinner.... and didn't have the energy/inspiration to do it the night before. I do have a frozen pastry roll that's thawing/rising and will bake that this evening. And I peeled most of the Fuyu Persimmons that was given to me. I found a couple of recipes that call for stuff I alrady have, so may try one of those this weekend. Dang it... there goes my promise to myself!
LOL @ Cheryl! Yeah, best laid plans and all that........ I typically bake for a couple of evenings before the kinfolk get together, so that I have time to make the sides day-of. I have so many dishes that the kids have come to expect as part of their Turkey day fare that I'm very busy dealing with the 6 desserts and seven side dishes..not including the Turkey..that I need to prepare. I'm glad I have a large family. That much food sitting around would guarantee that I would break whatever promises I'd made to myself about not overeating. So everyone who comes gets to go home with a goodie bag stuffed with all manner of leftovers, and because I have a sweet tooth, the desserts are the first thing to go! I allow myself a pig-out day so I don't feel deprived, then it's back to my heart-healthy, clean eating. But that pig-out day for me is the day after. I've done so much cooking and food handling, and am so busy making sure everyone has everything they need and it's all set out the way it's supposed to be, that by the time I sit down with everyone I really don't have an appetite. So I put a little food on my plate, just to be sociable.....and then make myself a hefty plate of all my favorites, cover it in foil, and store it till the next day, when I can THOROUGHLY enjoy it!
Wow, I wanna have dinner with you next year! My family only had 1 dessert, Pumpkin Pie *eyeroll* I dont like Pumpkin, so I bought a Caramel Apple Pie from work. My bf would have convulsions if I ever had the kitchen counter looking like that, he's such a clean freak in the kitchen
Hi Ronni,..some contrast,..the before and after,..very appetizing looking pies and as a result i am just now longing for something like those,..my mouth is watering.
My kids are fond of telling people that "Mom takes in strays over Thanksgiving" so sure, c'mon over! We had one of my son's work friends in attendance this Thanksgiving...she had no place to go, family out of town, couldn't get home etc., so Vanessa just hung with us. And as far as the mess in the kitchen....I'm a clean freak myself, so I've had to school myself to just studiously ignore the mess that I'm making while I'm cooking. It's hard, but worth it. You should see the whirling dervish I become though, afterwards! The kitchen sparkles!
My Thanksgiving was awesome. I did not have to cook or clean up. My daughter and her family did it all. After 45 years of cooking all the holiday meals it was wonderful. I made two apple pies and pumpkin bread pudding on Wed. and that's all.
So much food......such limited stomach capacity. Pass the mashed taters please. Some of the kids playing a weird shared phone game.
