Please keep them in your thoughts and or prayers. They were hit from behind earlier this week and the mother will be removed from life support tomorrow morning. I am so sad for them.
Oh my goodness, do people NOT see the slow moving vehicle sign on their carriages? My healing thoughts are being sent for the family and asking for easy passing for the mother.
That's very tragic. How do you end up rear ending a horse carriage? They obviously had no eyes on the road.
Oh my gosh, my heart is breaking for this family. People need to slow down and watch where they are going. So sad.
Honestly...keep the lady who hit her in your thoughts, too. Where we live it is hilly curvy and the weather was dark and dismal that morning and some sects of the Amish are very reluctant to follow the laws of out state by having their buggy's marked with reflective tape, but it may not have helped that morning if it was just over a knoll. I really don't enjoy driving in areas where there are buggies sharing the road. They aren't designed to be in fast moving traffic and we all drive fast moving vehicles. there isn't always room to swerve if you come up on one over a knoll or bend... It is a hard situation all the way around. They want to get somewhere a little more conveniently, but their mode of transportation can be dangerous to the inexperienced or unsuspecting driver. I support the Amish as much as I can in our area, but that means I have to be extra diligent in watching for them, too. Even I have "missed" seeing one at first glance while driving down the road and I can't believe I missed it to begin with.
We usually go to Holmes County periodically. The whole county just about is one large Amish community. They usually have 2 or 3 buggy accidents a year. Most of them happen in the summer time when there are a lot of tourists in the area. Even with all the signs warning drivers, most of them drive like idiots and speed is a big factor.
Unfortunately the two methods of travel do not mix well and the loser in most encounters will be the buggy/wagon. Prayers and thoughts for those injured in the accident. Jerry
Oh that is such sad news. I can see how it would have happened with hills and curves and poor visibility. It would be nice if the road had wider shoulders on them for the safety of the Amish. My heart and prayers go out to both families affected.
Oh my....that is terrible. I visit Lancaster, Pa quite often. I always wondered it these kinds of things happened. Sad, very sad. Praying for them.
Thanks everyone. Still keep them in mind. After they removed the life support this morning she passed away. He is still in the hospital. With several broken bones and a fractured back. My sister said the road has been busy all day with buggies and visitors. Sad day for them all. I just want to cry for them all.
Carolyn, at least the family has the support of their community, and kind neighbors like you. Some comfort in a time of tribulation . . . .
