My neighbors take pride in their lawns…… Oh wait, that’s not right…. My neighbors are prideful about their lawns…..Phoo! That’s not right either…. Oh!! I have it…My neighbors have large prides on their lawns. This years lion hunt has been extended by several days to accommodate the expansion of neighboring prides. I have bagged 57 lions of various sizes, with several latecomers to go. This does not count the lions with ears that wait for the lawnmower to pass by before lifting their heads above the sheared greenery. The neighboring prides. If they only came with one seed Jerry
Do you remember our long ago member Bitta? She made dinner and a drink from Dandelions. You could contact a local pet store to see if any of their critters would be interested in a feast of dandelion leaves for dinner. Both of these ideas are moot if the lawn has been sprayed with any lawn killer products.
Jerry, you would not believe how happy some dandelion blooms make chickens! We let the chickens have all the 'lions they can eat. Supposedly this makes the yolks yellower, but I can attest to the fact that chickens love 'lions!
Long live the lions, They make my favorite drink. Dandelion and burdock is a beverage consumed in the British Isles since the Middle Ages. It was originally a type of light mead, but over the years has evolved into the carbonated soft drink commercially available today. Traditionally it was made from fermented dandelion and burdock roots, hence the name.
@Kildale i have both these plants, mmm, and I also have wormwood. These were ingredients for middle age beer called “Gruit”. Before hops became the singularity, there were many different ingredients in making gruit.
Looks like my back half lot where I grow bulbs, comfrey and clover along with the dandelions. I have to put harsh restrictions on mowing until the bulbs die back. Our daughter-in- love didn’t understand. The gold finches love the dandelion seeds.
I seem to remember feeding chickens marigolds made their skin yellow, a desirable aspect in parts of the country. I wonder if dandelions would work? So many things to make with dandelions. The only thing I have done with them is eat the greens in a salad. I'll have to hunt for dandelion and burdock. A wealth of information, thank you all. Jerry
