Well, I really don't know where to begin with this one. I am not really an artistic person, but I can appreciate what others can do. Yesterday there was the combined day of the 2nd day of years' end exhibition and the Art Walk (second year running), where various members of our gardening club presented things that they had made. The idea was to present their art bits in their lotties in some way or another. Some folks presented them outside amongst the flowers, shrubs and trees...whilst others inside their little garden houses. I took a few pics, but there was a lady who took many pics. She sent them in to me and wrote a little piece on them on my website and then just posted hers...well, a link to her pics on Picassa. I think that she covered it all pretty well and so here is the link for you to view. For those Stewbies who like handicrafting and garden stuff...I believe that you will find something in the foto's that may be interesting to you. Even if one is not artsy themselves, one can still appreciate the talent and interests of others. Have a look: https://picasaweb.google.com/margot.sch ... gustus2014 I hope that you enjoy this Art Walk of ours. Ypuy can view it pic for pic or as a slide show (diavoorstelling).
Very impressive. Artistic bunch you gardeners are! These photos gave a good feel for how the lotties look.
Thanks CHERYL-- glad that you were able to get some kind of idea how the lotties on the complex look.
Very interesting, I like how the photo number 7 was taken. Life in the lotties must be exciting! I would like to visit one if I have the opportunity.
NETTY--Thanks for your nice comments. I like the quilts as well. Thanks KK-- well, I wouldn't say that life in the lotties is exciting, but there are some general activities and of course the excitement of gardening. DONNA--Yes, it is a good way to show off talent. Gosh, I wish that I had some. I would like to have had some art work to show off. It was not all shown on one lottie...it was shown on several different lotties over the complex. It is quite a large complex with more than 150 members and even more allotments. It is a bit too large actually...as it makes administering it quite a headache.
Wow Sjoerd, you guys are a creative lot, there in your lotties! I am very impressed. My favorites are #38 (woman in blue holding picture of person on bike). With her white hair & interesting blue outfit she is a piece of art in herself. The bonus is the interesting art work she is holding. And #65 oil of woman in bright red hat. Very cool.
Cayuga-- that painting of the woman in a red hat: It is a good one all right. it is a copy of an existing oil painting van Vermeer called, "Girl With the Red Hat". She did that to practice her technique. I found it very good too (but then, I am a great fan of Vermeer's work). The lady in the blue outfit is one of the most artful members of our club. It seems that there is no end to her talent. Usually she exhibits things made with bits and bobs from the lottie. Amazing really. It sounds as if you have some art appreciation yourself.
Ha! I may have an eye for art, but clearly not much knowledge about it! Good to know "Girl with the Red Hat" is a piece by Vermeer. I like the copy. Your lottie seems like an interesting place.
What an amazing range of talents on display! I enjoyed looking at the shots so could you thank the person for sharing them please, Sjoerd . I thought the painting of the swimmer reaching down to the huge fish was very funny because of the look on her face! I would love to be able to paint...
Looks like this years art walk through the lotties was even more impressive than last years. What a lovely integration of multiple art forms with my favorite art form gardening ( it is an art not a science?) Your lottie has such an abundance of varied talents it was wonderful to see.
CAYUGA--Well, you coulda fooled me. heh heh heh. I quite liked that repro too. I guess our allotment complex in interesting , but I never had thought of it in that way. Now that they have the Art Route one can see what sort of interests and talents the various gardeners have. I was a bit surprising to tell the truth. KIA-- I most certainly will. I think that these folks ought to be encouraged...and complimenting is a good way to do that. Who doesn't like to be appreciated. That painting was indeed funny. My neighbour lady on the allotment complex did that one. She does all sorts of things. like sculpting and other sorts of presentations. I recall one year she had an expo out in the countryside and her piece was to fashion fish of various sizes out of cut-open tin cans. She mounted these on tall bamboo sticks and sunk the sticks in a canal at varying depths. The idea was to give the impression of a swimming school of fish. It made a good impression because the place of exhibition was a farmer's field out in the countryside. The exhibition was along a secondary road so that folks could drive by and view all the exhibitions. Personally I feel that her best form of art is sculpture. Thanks for the positive comments, JEWELL-- I see that you recall that there was such a walk last year. I agree that it seems that generally the art work this year was a bit more impressive. Folks seemed to put more into it. There was one lady who expressed her art in the form of accordion playing whilst being dressed in period clothing. I liked that. I hope that the organizers do it again next year. It is so pleasant to walk around and see all the displays and talk with folks. It is all very social. I like that very much.
