Since we've had an extremely wet and cold July, and August is half gone and no better, our waterlogged garden is not thriving. But fortunately a few hardy species do their best to please: Monarda didyma: Lilium canadense. It is two metres tall, I'm standing underneath it photographing straight up: Primula florindae actually likes chilly and wet: Hosta "Snowflake": Liliums "Netty's Pride" and "Landini": Day lily "Bonanza": The Dimorpoteca gives one bloom at a time this year: The Ligularia grows tall, nearly two meters now: The Mackinoi is all over the place, but at least it is in bloom: At least I can count on the ferns and Ophipogon:
Well for a soggy garden Droopy yours seems to be producing some lovely plants and flowers. :-D The blue of your Mackinoi is gorgeous. I do soooo love blue in the garden. Can you tell me a little about them please? Are they frost hardy, how tall are they, are they grown from bulbs or seeds? Oh they are definately being added to my list for next year if they will survive here in Scotland.
Wonderful shots Droopy, do you have a favourite out of the bunch? I really like the Lilium canadense photo.
For waterlogged you garden looks wonderful Droopy. I love the black Ophipogon (Mondo Grass) We find the green variety here, a very common ground cover, but I have not seen the black. I will certainly have to look around for it, I really like black plants.
Thank you, eileen! Gentiana mackinoi, to be exact. Well, it's cold and wet here, so it will probably thrive in Scotland. I bought mine as a plant, but it has also managed to self-seed, even though I haven't seen any seed. It grows rather tall, up to 1,50 meters. If I am slow with the supports, it is flat out on top of the hostas. The root is kind of solid and I have not tried to divide it. I like it because it adds blue to the garden in late summer.
Thank you, Frank. No, I haven't. They are all my babies, you see. Than you, toni! I also have the green. They grow slowly here.
They all look great Droopy. We are suffering a drought so things look bad around here so I enjoy your pics.
I hope you will succeed, Netty! Thank you, Polly. You are more than welcome to them, and to some of our rain, too.
Yes, it is, even though its leaves are just green. They are puckered, and the plant is not too big either - about 25 cm tall, not including the flowers.
