This is my back garden. You have seen photos of it before A few people have said that it looked tidy and asked where my name "Chaotic Gardener" came from Come a little closer and you will see I have a horrible habit of planting things to closely. Here is Echinacea 'Hot Papaya' trying to sneak out thru the white Lavatera that got much larger than it was supposed to get Or here ... there are Zinnia's, Lavatera and Thunbergia all fighting for the light A few too many things in this corner too The Lavatera is clearly one of the bullies in my garden this year, growing much larger than ever before, trying to swallow the Veronica I also seem to have a problem keeping volunteers in check. Here, the Rudbeckia Triloba peeking thru the Sambucus nigra, but I think its a lovely combination. Here, a stray Rumex And Nicotiana It's not uncommon to find tomatoes growing between the flowers either. This must have come from the compost I spread here in the spring. Here in the Hosta bed you will find some Rudbeckia Triloba and tomatoes growing, neither of which I planted there. So you see, there is a lot of chaos in my gardens!
I'd trade your chaos for my obsessive tidiness any day! Your gardens are absolutely stunning and what I aspire to....one day. Knowing me though, I doubt I'll ever get there. I get SO freaking anal about having things orderly and spaced perfectly, that I don't think I'm ever going to get to the riot of color and texture and pattern that is your garden and that I adore. So I'll live vicariously through you. Keep planting, and PLEASE keep posting those stunning pictures!
I don't think it looks like chaos... I think it's absolutely beautiful having all those plants/flowers together. It looks "natural". And that I like.
Picture me sitting here, head cocked and scratching behind my ear......what the heck are you on about, woman!.... That border of yours looks simply smashing, and you're standing there meowing about it. What are you like! I can arrange an appointment with an optometrist if you like.
Netty are you mad woman calling you garden chaotic? I love it and would happily spend hours looking for, and finding, so many lovely plants in your beds. I would, however, curb the growth of the Lavatera before it overtakes everything else. Apart from that I'd leave everything else exactly how it is. :-D
Just think of all those weeds you are suppressing by having all those fabulous plants close together. You have some lovely colour combinations too. Lots of the formal gardens I have visited over the years all have vegetables growing in among their flower borders so it isn't really odd at all.
That is the tidiest garden I have ever seen. Needs to be on a garden walk. You must be able to eat off the floor in your house, based on what you think is messy outside. Loved the garden keep posting more
Your garden is stunning Netty, you should open it to the public to raise money for charity. I am sure you would get lots of visitors. Here in UK we have a NGS (National Garden Scheme) where people do just that, it makes for a lovely afternoon out, looking round other people's gardens. You do of course have to provide tea and biscuits for the visitors though lol
I'd be there Netty but I doubt you'd be able to get rid of me once I'd seen your garden up close. If you see someone erecting a tent in a sheltered spot be kind to me and I may help you pull weeds.
Netty, your garden is absolutely beautiful! I do love your attitude and can SO relate! There is something heartwarming about appreciating a healthy plant that pokes its volunteer head up...how can you pull it out? Such a healthy tomato! Such beautiful rudbeckia & lavatera! Gardens really are warfare, with plants fighting it out amongst themselves. You have the secret though to keeping the chaos within reason: beautiful edges. Makes all the difference. Now, if only I could do that....
