Just a final word about all that tree chopping here. I have a couple of fotos to illustrate how the character of our street is being changed.

Ok then, it looks like a pretty radical change, but I guess that we will get used to it.
I will stop moaning about this now. :)

I'd be upset too Sjoerd! Why is it all those trees had to go? What a radical change. I hope they plant some new ones.

That's terrible. I guess someone in power decided that the trees were a hazzard in bad weather or just a simple eyesore?

The town next to us did some of the same thing on their main street. Took out beautiful mature native Live Oak trees and replaced with a row of 4 foot tall clumps of native prairie grass.

Why do TPTB have to do something so radical? That looks so different and bad! But I will keep it clean and not say what I am really thinking, just as Droopy said.

you know sjoerd, it reminds me of when ed and i first moved her in 89. there was a very old apple tree on our fence line. it is where our UPS person, our mail person, our neighbors, and all passers by would help themselves to an apple or two when they fruited.

this one fall day, the county truck people came by with their saws and chipper and said that they were cleaning brush by the sides of the road and would we mind. course, we said go for it.

i went in the house for a couple minutes and came back out to see the apple tree on the fence line all cut down! i started running out to them, to give them what for, but hubs held me back and said the damage was already done. i cried for the longest time. that apple tree was not just ours, but everybody's, and it wasn't hurting anyone or the road.

guess what?! come next spring, the stump took off and started regrowing! and today it's a beautiful tree again, producing wonderful fruit! i love it when nature takes a human beating and comes back even stronger! :D

Your area looks so completely soulless now Sjoerd without those beautiful trees. Why, oh why can't councils learn to appreciate nature and leave well alone. :(

So sad to lose all those beautiful trees. Change can
be so difficult, yet is a constant in life.
But, have faith that new trees will be planted, your community I'm sure, loves nature and what it brings to everyday life. You will have the privilege to see the baby trees go in and watch proudly as they grow into adulthood.

NETTY--All those trees had to go because they are going to change the bike paths and street.

TONI--I find it a little worrying that something similar happened there. I wonder how widespread this is actually.

Thanks BUNKIE--Yes, "progress" is a word that has many meanings. I'm hoping for new trees too, but not holding my breath. Even if they plant new trees it'll be another twenty years before they are as big as they were.
BTW--that was a great story about the little Appletree that wouldn't die.

DROOPY--I suspect that we are thinking the same words.

KUNTRYGAL--Thanks for your support...That makes three of us with such thoughts. ;)

EILEEN--Oh I don't know. The council here just drives me up the wall with it's poor planning and wasting of tax money. We are having new elections 3 Marech and I hope that the jokers that are responsible will be voted out.

I am hoping that ther council will replant trees too, 4-G--but I am not as optimistic about their motives or interest in nature as you.
They have not been initiating new plant areas over that last ten years, but they have been steadily removing flowers, shrubs and trees here and there across the city.

I can hardly look at it. I can only imagine how you must feel every time you have to. I'd have to really hold my tongue lest I say a lot of bad stuff...

    Just sooooo sad... :(

I hope others feel the same way so that the politians that supported the chopping will get a little of their own methods. :-x

Yes DAISY--it is VERY difficult to look at. it stirs up quite alot of angry feelings.

Thanks so much for the support, GLENDA...and thanks for the big hug. That is so nice.

Well JEWELL I wish that I could find out who was the original person responsible, but the people at the Council house tell me that the plans were made many years ago and thet the original drafters of this plan are now gone. What a coincidence.
If I can discover who has carried-out the plan then I shall at least know who NOT to vote for. :)
I like your post..it's a form of justice, isn't it?
