I asked Frank about where to post about Christmas happenings and he suggested starting a Christmas 2010 tread where people could post about their daily doings for getting ready for the holidays. We haven't done much yet. I have cards about a third done. I have to write a note in each one. My dad started me doing it. He said if people don't have the time to put a note in a card they might just as well keep the card. So, I put notes in all of my cards. Not a letter, just a one page note. Today we went and bought a tree, artificial but a tree all the same. The one we had was big and we wanted a smaller one since we live in a smaller place now. Tomorrow, I'll think about getting the Christmas stuff out of storage and sorting out what I want for the house. We stopped and bought cookie making supplies and came home. I have to make more pfeffernusse as the ones I made on Thanksgiving weekend have dwindled away some. I don't know who is eating them. I wanted some poppy seeds but they didn't have any so I guess I will have to wait for making the lemon poppyseed bread. Maybe the Kroger store will have some. dooley
I have my tree up, most of my cards done, my house cleaned and now I am ready to bake. I am planning on making lemon bars, pecan pie bars, fruit and nut bars, molasses, chocolate chip and sugar cookies. Like Dooley I am a diabetic so neighbors and friends will get most of them. wannabe
I have set up the tree. One out of the three fake trees we have. We only ever set up one and I have no idea why we have three of them. I also put up some lights outside. I've done a little present shopping, but I'm not quite done yet. That's all so far.
We have no tree up yet.We have an infant seat ,stroller, plus a bassinet where the tree should go. I have got most of my gifts bought.I have to get Cheynne's and get it mailed to her.Kevin's and Linda's and get them mailed.Thats about it.
No decorations up here yet as I always wait until after the 16th (my daughter's birthday) before I put them up. I've been busy making home-made chocolates as pressies for neighbours and friends. I still have a big batch of chocolate fondants to make and then a few more boxes to put them all in. All the Christmas cards are made, written and posted in the hope that the Royal Mail can get through all this snow and ice to pick them up for delivery.
The only shopping I've done so far is for a 5 year old named Jeremiah, who I don't even know! A friend of mine has started a little charitable foundation in memory of her fiance Eric, who died in May 2010 at age 32 of cancer. He loved new sneakers, so for Christmas 2010, the foundation is providing cool new sneaks to kids who need them. My guy is Jeremiah. I hope he likes his kicks. I had fun picking them out for him.
I'm terrible behind this year. I haven't even gotten my cards written and I only just started shopping yesterday. I'm not sure what to bake and I haven't decorated. Boy ... I'd better get busy!
I put the outside lights up in mid- Nove. when it was 70 degrees out. We have our tree up with the top ornament on it and that's it. The cards are done and will be mailed Fri. Have figured out the menu for Christmas Day and New Years.
Got all my cards ready to put in the mail today. Also have my shopping list all written out. I'm thinking about going ahead and putting up the tree and decorations this weekend.
Almost finished buying gifts, just two more to find. I will get the tree up this weekend, that won't take long if you remember the Charlie Brown tree I bought last year and do some decorating too. Next week starts a Cinnamon Bread baking marathon. I have at least 12 loaves to make, could be 18 if I get really ambitious. We go to oldest daughters for christmas day so no extra house cleaning for me anymore. I stopped sending cards several years ago to save money at that time and just never got back into doing it again.
Almost all of the cards have been posted, I just have a parcel to Australia and a few last ones to go tomorrow. Most of the Christmas gift shopping is done, and at least half is wrapped. The house is decorated, the cake is made, the drinkies have been brought, the pickles are done and a lot of the food is in the larder. I have cooking to do, but that will be done nearer the time. Today I took my friend Debbie Christmas shopping. She has Huntingtons disease, I may have mentioned her before, and the disease has progressed a lot so she isn't in great health. She is only a couple of years older than me and has a 13 year old son, and a less than great husband who has as little to do with her as possible, so I do the looking after. We had a great day and she did all of her shopping. I then wrapped everything for her and have left her to write the gift tags....not an easy job for someone with Huntingtons but a job she wanted to do so she could put little messages on the cards. On Saturday 2 of us are taking her to Kent to see her sister who is in the last stages of the disease and is being cared for in a hospice. It is very traumatic for Deb to see her sister as she appreciates she will be in a similar condition in a year or so's time. I don't want any special praise for doing these things for Deb, she is a special friend who we all love dearly and I do these things because I want to. After all, Christmas is a time of giving, and my biggest gift to her...is me.
We put the smaller tree up and dr put some colored lights on it. It came with just white ones. No decorations yet. I worked at the library this morning and now I want to get the cards done so I can mail them tomorrow. I mailed the ones going far away today. I've just been losing track of time lately. When I checked out my books today the due date was Dec. 27th and I think I'm going to panic a bit but I'll wait until tomorrow to do it. dooley
If all goes well I shall put up the x-mas decs this weekend. I have a few other things to do as well...so it will be a busy weekend to be sure. I went to Amsterdam and bought some cards yesterday, so those have to be written as well. I am late this year. EJ--I remember you telling us about your friend, Deb. I am glad that you have time to do things with her. You may not even fully know how much she appreciates your friendship. Gosh--a good friendship is worth more than every piece of money in the entire world.
The outside decorations are up--a garland on the entry fence, and swags on the barn gates. I mailed our cards yesterday, and delivered the cookie baskets to several places in town that are especially helpful all year round. We got our tree earlier this week, and will bring it in tonight to acclimate, and then decorate it tomorrow. I feel like I'm just going through the motions because we are going to have uninvited, unwanted guests (relatives) soon. My holiday anticipation is squashed under the dread of their arrival, then they will be here for two days, and it will take at least that long for me to unclench my fists and jaws, so there go my holidays!
