As we move into our last month of Spring, here in my north-eastern corner of Australia the Hemerocallis continue to bloom. This last week I've been seeing the first blooms ever on a couple that were planted last Winter.

The gorgeous blooms of these Daylilies makes a stark contrast to the dry and parched front yard where they are growing. You can see just how brown our front yard gets during the 'dry' season here.

But thankfully, these fantastic Daylilies provide some much needed colour other than brown!

I don't have that many different varieties in my 'Daylily Corner' of the tiered garden beds, but I do rather love the ones I've got.

Thanks for your comments Lukeypukey, Eileen and Netty.

Lukeypukey, I often wish I had more room in the garden bed so I could get more of these beauties.

Eileen, they're also a sight for sore eyes here where it's so dry and brown right now.

Netty, the photo doesn't really do it justice. It's almost black in some light. Quite dramatic!

They are ALL stunning! I was looking for an "almost black one" at the day lily farm. I'm jotting down the name of your's in case I ever run across one.
Makes me wish spring was already here in Texas!

I was hoping Cheryl would see this post!! :p The color combinations are AMAZING! Aren't they just the most wonderful plant? I'm on the hunt for miniatures since I bought one and like it so much. Plus I can keep it in a big pot on the porch ;)

Bernie--A sight for sore eyes! Everything has stopped flowering/growing and is now yellowing in my yard. Your daylilies are lovely!

I just scanned through the other posts and saw several people referring to your daylilies as 'a sight for sore eyes'. I guess I wasn't very original, but the sentiment is still true!

Cherylad, good luck with your search. I'm looking for another dark one to plant up next year myself. There's two that I particularly like - Black Knight and Black Velvet Baby. Both are stunning.

Stratsmom, I'm still waiting on my few miniatures to bloom. I can't wait to see them.

Cayuga Morning, don't worry! They are a sight for my sore eyes too when the surrounding landscape is so brown and dry. These colours are so very welcome.

Your daylilies are lovely! We can only grow really tough ones. This year only one bloomed, an old yellow one. The newer once never managed to put out blooms. :( Thanks for sharing yours.

Droopy, I know some of the Daylilies that were planted back in 2009 didn't bloom at all during the Spring of 2010. They are blooming now though, so I wouldn't give up on the ones that didn't bloom for you.

Thanks Philip. I'm enjoying the colour so very much right now as well.

Thanks for your encouraging words Bernieh. Us norhtern gardeners are usually very optimistic when it comes to what we can grow. Sometimes it may take two-three years before we can say "I said it could be done!" :stew2:
