My flower garden has what I call a "dip" between the spring flush of blooms and the summer display. The garden is experiencing the beginnings of "the dip" at the moment. The spring blooms are finishing-up and the summer ones are trying desperately to get something started.
The weather has gone all hot on us now, so I am expecting a smoothe transition.
Here's what's going on at the moment.
I am greeted by this blow-in poppy as I approach the enrance to the old garden.
The Philadelphus "Innocence" and coronaria fall into eachother. The fragrance is sublime.
The P. innocence with it's variegated foliage.
The Lychnis coronaria is getting more blooms all the time.
Verbascum densiflorum blew in as well and is just now beginning to open it's blooms.
Here is a little mish-mash of blooms by the front gate to the garden.
The Delphinium "Summer Skies" really stands out in my little garden. It is it's second year and coming along quite well, I feel.
The first Helenium bloom this year. The solitary flower looks a bit lonely now, but it will soon be joined by many, many more.
This Clematis viticella also covers the shed's roof and blooms later than the montana.
A macro of the same small bloom.
I am over the moon that the Phloxes are beginning. I really do like Phloxes.
My new Monarda has it's first bloom. It is just beginning and I hope that it will fill-out a bit more. It isn't very tall this year.
These Geums are winding down now.
This big, floppy Oenothera fruticosa is such a joy to see in the late evening or early morning.
The Geranium 'splish-splash' is blooming like crazy at the moment It is a bit early, so I will cut it back soon and hope for a second flush.

That will do it for this time. I hope you are still awake. :)

That looks like plenty to tide you over until the next big round of blooms.

You made me think how rarely I see my Oenothera (yellow evening primrose) because I rarely walk by that garden after lunch time. Hope someone sees it.

Lovely blooms, Sjoerd. :D I can see that you're way ahead of us on some things while others are at the same stage, or approximately so. We've always got a dip around mid-summer too, which we try to fill by putting in perennials that will bloom around now, but aren't always successful.

Thank you for the nice comments, everyone.
I try to fill the gap with annuals too, Droopy...but all the seeds that I planted for this purpose have produces still-tiney plantlets that refuse to grow taller. They will miss "the dip" by a long shot, but will just add their two cents' worth during the summer...providing the moles or slugs don't interfere. hahahaha :D

I wish I had blow-ins like the ones you have Sjoerd as they are lovely. :-D I have only one and it's a Common spotted Orchid which I'm happy to let stay.
You have so much colour in your garden at the moment. Mine is at the in between stage too but doesn't look nearly as good as yours does. :(

Thanks Eileen. I have a few double red ones and some purples and purple-reed mix over by the greenhouse. They are too pretty to pull out and throw away.
A lady down the way from us asked if I would let some wild poppies stand for a while until the pods dries so that she could have some seeds. of course I said ok...but it remains the only place along the front now that looks unkempt. They have turned yelllow and have fallen over to one side. Dreadful sight, that.
I'll bet you are pretty happy to have that spotted orchid, I know I would be. Congrats on that. Would you post a pic of the bloom?

Good luck with your Splish-splash, Stratsmom. I will cut mine down this weekend. I always cut my geraniums back after blooming. I guess that I am just "flower-greedy". :D

beautiful display, Sjoerd. That Clematis climbing over the shed is fantastic. I wish some great flowers would "blow" into my garden and join the ones there. I know you'll enjoy the summer blooms as they come in.

There really aren't words to describe your gorgeous flowers. I just don't see things that are so incredibly beautiful, here in Texas. Oh, I'm sure there are, but I have yet to see them. Don't ever stop 'showing off'(hehehe)!! :D :D :D

Thanks very much, GG and KG. I have that Clematis planted by one arch as well and it is doing quite well in this it´s second year. It´s creeping over into the Buddleja. If all goes well, that thing will be really thick by next year. Fingers crossed.

Oh KG...I have seen some pretty nice flower pics from some Texan posters on here.
I had to chuckle when I read your comment. I shall do my best. :)

Wow! I'm just seeing this, Sjoerd. I must say your "dip" is beautiful. Do delphiniums bloom their first year? I bought one this year but it hasn't bloomed as of yet. your Clementis & Bee balm are wonderful, I can't wait to see mine in bloom. I just finished planting some morning glories in hopes they'll be around long enough to bloom. I'm hoping our season here will last at least another 3 months before getting too cold. Love seeing all your beautiful colors.
