Here in Nashville, the temperature yesterday was 74 degrees! And was in the high 60's all week long. It's dropped some today, but temps are predicted to be back up in the 60's by early next week.

Apparently folks across the entire nation are experiencing this balmy weather, from California to Washington DC. Here's a set of maps that demonstrate just how ahead of schedule spring is across the nation.

Apparently the weather/climate signals that tells plants and trees to start sprouting new leaves and buds have started to appear by as much as 10 to 22 days earlier than normal. While this upsurge in temperature is typically a welcomed relief from the cold and snow, it also heralds some significant alarm in terms of "planning and managing important issues that affect our economy and our society,” noted Jake Weltzin, a USGS ecologist and the executive director of the USA-NPN, in a press release.

Here's the full article. Sure gave me some food for thought.
