Not to bore you all with the details... BUT... weather was not his friend. Original plan was to leave Galveston and cross the Gulf of Mexico to near Cancun. Had to turn around 60 miles out because of seriously bad weather/waves. Broke a pin on the autopilot. Returned to land... fixed it and then had to change plans. He said this was Plan D... I have no clue what B & C were. Anyhow... on to Florida instead. Had to motor through the Intercoastal Canal system (along with Tugs and Barges) to the other side of New Orleans before getting back into the Gulf and then to Florida. He's made it to Key West and is now waiting for a weather system to pass so he can attempt to cross the Gulf from there and make it to Cancun.... on his own now since his friends/crew had to return to their jobs. Anyhow... here's a couple of photos he's shared. Bald Eagle off the coast of Louisiana... Bald Eagle ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And two of my favs along the way to Florida. Red sky at night... sailors delight! ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Well 'Plan D' was not too far out of the way. Lets hope for good weather so the next leg of the trip is boringly pleasant. Will he hug the coast after Cancun and head to Belize or Honduras? Jerry
I see the Dragon has been breathing fire into the skyline. Seriously though those are superb photographs. I hope that your brother has a safe and uneventful journey when he leaves Florida especially now that he's on his own. Thanks for keeping us updated Cheryl.
Jerry... I know he has lost time to make up... so I'd GUESS that he will be taking "big steps" across the water instead of hugging the coast line. But... there's so many variables. I know he'll do safest thing to get him and the boat to Panama. I tell everyone... he may be crazy, but he's not stupid. I can just imagine our Mom... she'd be a total nervous wreck worry about him and "The Professor" out there by themselves. Thanks Eileen... He posted lots of super nice sunrises and sunsets... kinda hard to pick just a couple.
Sjoerd... I love that second photo! Looks like a painting. Not to worry about his boat. He can fix anything on it. Frank... Even though they both have every gadget and techno gizmo on board... including satellite phones and HAM radios etc... In order to update their blogs they do have to be able to get an internet signal. So once they are way out in the middle of nowhere, there won't be updates until they get a signal. And if they're out there without a crew, they really don't have the time to be playing online. So we'll get updates whenever they're in port. Thanks everyone... I'll pass along all the compliments about his photos
