Well i had two visitors over the weekend and they remained here way past midnight,..no complaints as they came bearing gifts. They heard me saying i was aiming to have more tall plants this year and so they arrived with the bulbs below,..all 31 Bulbs,..which i planted yesterday. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) I had to visit the hardware store for some nails and wandered into the garden area,..they had containers which were quite big,..18 inches x 24 inches and as they appeared cheap i bought one,..don't know as yet what to put in it,..oh it was 14 euro that's about $17,..Molly was tired watching me work today,..6 hours non stop. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) The new rose below was in limbo this past week as i couldn't find a suitable spot for it to show itself off when in bloom. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) Something had to be removed,..so the bush you see in the far corner is almost gone,..i might remove it altogether.(this is an old picture) ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) How that corner and wall looks now. Those are going to be beautiful! Wish someone would come bearing gifts like that for me! Hmm my birthday is next week...here's hoping
"Glads" are so aptly named--a beautiful flower, add so much to the garden, and can be depended on year after year. Your gifts are great, and I know you'll take full advantage of them!
Hi Jen,..fingers crossed and make sure when you say you would like flowers that they have roots. ====================================================== Hi Jane,..most of my gifts are really payment for some deed i performed for friends,..like towing a boat back home from the lake or river,..helping to launch or take a boat off the water,..or giving a friends visitors a boat trip,..to sorting out a computer problem,..my usual reply when asked how much do they owe is get me a good plant,..now that's for small deeds only lol.
I like your pay-offs! Those are going to be great looking in your garden. Sorry that something had to go... as long as it's not the Broom that I love so much! Doesn't it feel good to get out there and put a full day's work in the garden? I bet Molly enjoyed it too.
Hi Cheryl,..that business of taking something in lieu of money when the money would be small started way back,..just of late a friend in America wanted a certain item from Ireland and wanted to pay me for it and postage,..i asked for the Doggy Tag her firm makes,..(dogs name,..my name,..phone number and address) she is sending two with a surprise,..i like that system,..back to bartering. When i had the hens and ducks people used to call out for fresh free range eggs and organic veg,..one local farmer asked could he have a half a dozen duck eggs,..and if i could manage a dozen ,..i said of course!,..and if you want more i can throw in two lovely ginger kittens,..if you could see his face,..it was the best example of a blank expression i ever came across. My fingers are sore from the gardening,..have gloves,..don't like wearing them unless its a heavy duty job but just mucking about is enough to split your nail quicks.
I love bartering! It's so much more fun than just handing over some money. My most recent barter (and it has nothing to do with gardening)... I bought two tickets to see Eric Clapton in concert. I was going no matter what (I think it was around by 18th time to see him). I knew that one of my cousins wanted to go but couldn't afford it on her teacher's salary and two kids in college. So I made her an offer she couldn't refuse. She could have the spare ticket if she did the driving. A win-win situation for us both! And we barter at work all the time. The best has to be on deadline Fridays when we have lunch catered in exchange for advertising.
There is never a dull moment in your yard. Pictures tell all and those are always changing. I'll bet Molly keeps track, she is a behind the scenes dog. We know, we have seen the pictures. We will be glad and dahlited to see the area filled in with flowers. Jerry
I like the way you trade Philip!! It looks as though you're going to be busy for a ittle while yet in your garden. I'm sure with your tender, loving care everything will look smashing.
Hi Cheryl,..bartering IS great and mostly you come out a winner getting something you want,..your barter with your cousin was good,..sit back someone else drives and a good concert to enjoy,..your barter in work really appeals to me. ==================================================== Hi Eileen,..busy is right and its mostly sorting out cuttings i took last summer which have taken root,.. trying to decide which to keep,..i hate parting with the roses but i just counted the established roses and there are 30 in total there are still some more which may come along,..even a dozen rose seeds in the fridge,..lots of new colours,..and there are many other cuttings which rooted,..Camellias and Azaleas,..but its enjoyable confusion lol. ====================================================== Hi Deanna,..those two kittens are now out in the garden checking out everything and jumping on anything that moves,..here they are taking an outside lunch break then resting afterwards. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) ===================================================== Hi Jerry,..it can be fun with Molly as the watcher,..following me around and trying to avoid a clash on the same path,..when we meet head on she turns on the path never goes off a path into flowers which pleases me,..yes it wont be long before roses are in bloom here,..though late this year.
You have certainly been busy. Trimming back the bush certainly gave you more room. Those kittens are too cute. Will be anticipating great photos with those new bulbs and the old roses
Those are some beautiful finds. 6 hours-Phew I would be tired after that also. Cute pic's of molly, mama kitty and kittens. Kittens are such fun to play with and watch. I love Glad's. But since I have to dig the bulbs up and keep them over winter. Which I just do not seem to be able to do. I just look at others beautiful Glad's . I hate to spend the money on them and have them die over the winter.
Hi Jewell,..i planted the new Climbing Rose Bush in the corner after trimming back that tall thick bush,..and very quickly i notice new shoots on the rose bush,..it must like its new home,..looking forward to seeing this multi coloured rose display. Philip ======================================================= Hi Patti,..i worked another six hours the following day,..while i still had the urge lol,..and on the third day found it difficult to find something to do so all my bulbs are in the ground and all my seeds sown. It must be very cold during your winters,..our Gladioli Bulbs will survive over our winters,..i agree with you about not spending money on the Glads when they die over the winter. ==================================================== Hi Donna,..wow! 120 Gladioli Bulbs,..you should have a massive display,..here was i thinking my 27 Glads were a huge amount. ===================================================== Barter,..parcel arrived today from NC,..USA,..i had said i wouldn't accept cash to cover an item i sent plus postage but to send me Doggy Tags and a surprise,..Dog Tag is chrome and stamped with Molly-my phone number and address. Molly showing off new Doggy Tag. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) The surprise,..well here are two but there were more. The Bird House.
