I enjoyed reading this excerpt and seeing the foto. Good post, Jane. It would be nice if these types of gardens existed in all cities, if there are enough folks that would like to participate.
I would love to see this type of garden in every town and city too. Nowadays most children seem to think that fruit and veg come off a supermarket shelf. I'm sure there are many who would be delighted to se projects like this reinstated. They not only showed folks how to grow things but taught them about soil conditions, weather and pests and diseases - amongst others. Such a pity it's the only one of its kind left today.
It was my mother's interest in gardening and the PBS series "The Victory Garden" hosted by Jim Crockett that got me interested in gardening. I imagine the name is a tribute to WW2 Victory Gardens that people grew during trying times saving precious resources. Jerry
Madisonville started a community garden this past spring. It's started by the people who run the food bank I think. People who get food go and help with it and they have one for children, too. I guess I haven't paid much attention to it but I did read about it in the paper. dooley
