Live Oak limb reaching the ground. Calcasieu River Commercial properties must submit a landscape plan for construction. But trees are not specified, so usually some trash tree (cheap) is used. I was pleasantly surprised to see these Live Oaks planted behind a convienence store. Yeah, we sell light bulbs. Amorphophallus 'Konjac' at The Fountainhead. These can get 5 ft. tall. Erythrina herbacea Asimina triloba (Paw Paw Tree) Hydrangea quercifolia Crinum sp. More valuable than gold-top soil. Agave multifilifera Agave 'Lemon-Lime' Agave salmiana ferox 'Green Goblet'. A choice cultivar. Another box ready to go. Agaves will only be a small part of the arboretum. Later, I'm going to come in with enormous amounts of fern and herbaceous perennials. And a few choice understory trees. And it wouldn't be complete without Liriodendron tulipifera. Oh yeah! Are you beginning to understand my 'bliss'?
Lacassine Arboretum In the early 80's (82-86), we lived in a remnant climax forest community of oak/hickory/pine on West Lacassine Bayou. Strictly woodland plants. I lose sleep just remembering all that work I put into that garden. 3 acres. Tabula Rasa is only 90 x 121.5. Piece of cake.
What is the variegated plant in the crinum picture? it looks like a peony to me...but a lot of your plants I am not familiar with so I am a little lost on them. I do have a paw paw though. What is the amorphophallus? foliage, flowering, perennial, focal point, etc? it looks like an interesting plant. The river is beautiful. We don't have anything that large real close to us.
So nice. One of my favorites are Amorphophallus 'Konjac' and Agave multifilifera. Very nice to see all your pictures. Barb in Pa.
Variegated ginger. Amorphophallus-all of the above. I grow Amorphophallus paeonifolia and I can push it to 7 ft. tall by 6 ft. across. The Calcasieu is just a baby river. To see a real river, head on out to Baton Rouge or New Orleans. And while you're in New Orleans, you gotta see what they are doing to the Huey P. Long Bridge. Google it.
Looking at the Live Oak Limb reminded me of the Pagoda Tree i spotted in Kew Gardens London,..they propped it up with a brick support and steel supports,..its 252 years old. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
