Good Sunday morning all. Currently just 7°C and clear. Being only 7 degrees from freezing, the cool temperatures are a reminder of what is ahead. Harvested some of my carrots yesterday and canned them. Sliced my finger on the mandolin and decided at that point to join my girls on a shopping trip. I love to spend time with them! Today, we will be heading back to the fair and gathering our entries and winnings. Also have to drive my son back to school later. Have a great day all :)

Good morning all. Ouch Netty, hope it wasn't a bad cut. And I will gladly trade weather with you....we are looking at 90's all week.

Looks like it might be overcast outside, but it could be the room darkening film that we put on the west windows this summer. It's always a surprise when I open the door and find bright shiny sunlight out there after the darkness we see through the windows. We got a whoppin' 1/4th inch of rain yesterday and for once my yard got more than the official weather reporting station at the big airport.

I don't think we have anything planned for today. I finished knitting some dish clothes for the kitchen yesterday and today I will either work on the red/blue sweater or start the orange one I have been wanting to make for a few years.

Good Monday morning all. Currently 7°C and clear. It sure is dark out there, so I had to look UP to see! Off to work shortly, this is the first full week in a few weeks. I hope it passes quickly!
Sent my FitBit through a wash and dry cycle yesterday without realizing ... it still works! That little device is TOUGH ... it has also been for 2 swims in the pool and still working!
Have a great day everyone :)

Good morning all! Yesterday we were gathering sheep and I was filling bags of barley with my brother. Farm work never ends  Today will be more of the same. I'm trying to get some of my own study mixed in between working sessions but it's not easy at all.

Ireland's National Ploughing Championships starts today. It's a 3-day event and is one of the biggest outdoor events in Europe. Thousands of farming exhibitors will be present. I'll maybe attend tomorrow but not sure yet. Have a look! http://www.npa.ie/images/

    Enjoy your Tuesday all!

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently just 6°C and clear. Another beautiful day ahead! I finally got a chance to spend some quality time in my flower gardens last night, it's been a very long time since I was out there. Lots of weeding and deadheading to do, but overall not that bad out there considering. It will take a few hours each night this week to get it done, but it really needs it. Off to work where the fall cleanup may begin today. Have a great day all :)

Good morning all. Not many changes around here so far, sunny, dry but the temp is about 5-10 degrees less hot than August....not cooler, just less hot.

Looks like we will be fostering a friends cat for a couple of months. He has a friend coming to visit who is allergic to cats so we are volunteering to keep Wizard for him. Wizard is used to going in and out as he pleases but that's not going to happen in a strange place and I don't really believe cats should be let out to roam in the city anyway. Ought to be interesting.

Just got back from a "behind the scenes" tour at the Waco Zoo--one of the perks of membership. We visited with the male lion and the tigers (at a distance), got to high-five with an elephant, feed and pet the giraffes, and pet Ethel the rhino.
The two staff that gave us the tour told us about the animals' personality quirks (one elephant knows all the commands used to check her pads, eyes, ears, etc., but only does them when she wants to!) and told us about the care and feeding. They go through 70 of the big round bales of hay every two weeks, and that is just for the elephants, rhinos, and deer! We fed kudus carrots and escarole, and found that the vegetarian doggie biscuits are a big favorite with the hoofed stock.
We get a tour each year when we renew our membership, and we've toured all the major areas (herpetarium, hoofed stock, big cats, orangutans) and can't pick a favorite.
We went out to lunch after washing off the elephant and giraffe slobber. I didn't want to, but my husband insisted.

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 12°C and clear. Yesterday the temperature dropped at sunrise and it got very cold at work. I think it got cold enough at home to damage my tomatoes ... they looked very bad and had dead patches. None of my other plants look like that so I guess it was a real patchy frost. Today is the first day of fall already ... where does the time GO? Have a great day all :)

Good morning all.. First day of Autumn my hind leg!! We are still in the 90's for highs and no rain in the foreseeable future. There have been years when the leaves didn't start changing until mid-December and this year just might be added to that list.
I went out back to water and until the sun shows it's ugly face above the trees on the east side of the yard it's not too terribly bad out there, so I guess I will start getting up at the crack of dawn if I want to get anything done out there. And there is lots to do out there!!!

Toni, we must be on the same wavelength. We were out watering the front flower beds this morning. With no rain predicted for over a week, we decided to bite the bullet and water. Fortunately, most of the bushes and flowers are natives and can survive on little water. What surprised us was how good the roses look--no water for two weeks and high temperatures, and they are fat and happy! We've been watering the fruit trees weekly--deep watering. I'm getting some great biceps from hauling five gallon buckets of water!

Good Thursday morning all. Currently 11°C and clear. Another day with no rain, and so it looks like I'll be joining Toni and Marlingardener in some watering today. It's shopping day today, and so we will be able to eat again! Have a great day all :)

Good morning, [IMG] it's starting off to be a gusty, drizzly day out here on the NC coast, and it's really looking and feeling like the beginning of autumn. *sigh* I am NOT ready for summer to be over.

Morning all. Zuzu I have plenty of summer you can have, there won't be a break in the 90-95 deg temps here until some time in early October....maybe....if the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars. I love The 5th Dimension's music.

I was out in the backyard watering some potted plants yesterday morning when a miniature Spooky ran across the yard to the gate....I just stood there bawling for a few minutes, I miss my cat so much. :smt059

Good Friday morning all. Currently 12°C and clear. Early start today, so I can start my weekend an hour earlier today. The air sure has changed ... it feels like fall most of the mornings and evenings, but feels more summer like mid day.I'm just not ready for fall yet! One week until my daughter gets her new house and moves out ... mixed emotions here, but mostly happy for her. I sure will miss here around here though. Have a great day all :)
