The day after I took these pictures there was ice no more!!! The Loones were there as soon as there was open water. Receding Ice cover ( photo / image / picture from Calomaar's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Calomaar's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Calomaar's Garden )
Did you get temps in the 80's too? My daughter in law says last Tuesday it was snowing and on Thursday it was 82 degs. I'm glad your snow is gone. Hope it doesn't come back to plague you again this spring. dooley
We got to 74 that was the straw that broke the snow, what was left didn't take long to melt away. Tom
Tom every photograph I see of the area you live in makes me wish I could be there to see it for myself - even under ice and snow. It must be wonderful to look out over water now that the thaw has taken place.
The Loons arrive soon after the ice is out. They can't function on the ground, so they don't show up before the ice is out. They are among our most treasured summer experiences.. Their calls day and night just say summer in the north woods. I have a loon call for a front door bell. To look out over the water is wonderful. Now to get the kayak out and get some pictures from out there.
I'd love to hear how a loon sounds. Where do they nest? It looks like a beautiful spot there, Calomaar... each season having particular charms. Enjoy your day!
What a great website! Thank you so much, Tom. That is a very pretty bird and I really enjoyed hearing the loon calls. So did my cats Austin and Missy -- they both perked up when they heard them.
Get us a closeup of the loons . Certainly is a scenic view there. Awesome to be sure. Thanks for sharing a loon story.
