This morning I finished the quilting part of the baby quilt for Fintin. I took it off of the frame. We now have reclaimed the dining room. I still have to do the border and maybe stitch some small bears along it or on the back. I'm not working on it at the moment as I have a meeting before work so we have to go up the hill early. I hope to get it done before the end of the month. dooley
dr built the frame out of two by fours and it sets on sawhorses. It attaches with clamps. It was sixty inches by about two feet. By changing the two by fours it can be made to fit larger size quilts also. Fintin's quilt is about 56 x 56. It's larger than a normal crib size because I wanted to fit more of the pattern. Tom wanted an Amish Quilt and this is what I thought I could do. It's taking me a longer time than I thought though. dooley
You do such beautiful work, Dooley. I know it will be treasured for years to come - probably for generations!
Its such a beautiful color Dooley. It will catch that babies eyes fast. You really put your heart and soul into it.
What colour are you going to make the border in Dooley? I love your quilt and I know Fintin wil too as every stitch was sewn with tender loving care. :-D
The border will be the same dark purple as the back and the center square on the front. I didn't start on it today as I wasn't feeling up to par and I had to go to work early. It was really windy here today and something was making my head ache and my nose run and I was sneezing. I hope it isn't windy tomorrow. I need to pin it all before I start so it goes on straight. dooley
Dooley, beautiful quilt and a job well done. I know you will be glad to see the absolute final stitch go into it. Are you leaving the border unquilted, I always found quilting the border the least fun and I hated doing the binding. :-? Don't forget the label too. Fintin will be proud to have that for many years and might even allow his children to use it on special occasions....but that is a "fer piece down the road" isn't it.
Fintin is only a couple months old. How time flies! I am almost 67 so I doubt I get to see his children. I wonder if I would know them if I did. dooley
Dearest Dooley: The quilt is beautiful. My late mother made my youngest son a quilt by hand when he was small. She used red and purple which were his favorite colors. He is 19 now . . . all grown up ... I have peeked in on him while he is sleeping at times . . . He sleeps sometimes clutching that quilt. It makes me smile to know how close he was to my mother. . . She died when he was only six years old.
