To put you in the right mood, here's a link to that song: The long and winding road on YouTube. Our trip started out with straight, good roads. Well, as straight as water and rock will let us make them: We went through villages by the sea: Then up into the mountains: Back down, and the roads are so narrow there's barely room for two cars to pass each other: We had lots of these signs: We also had a few of these: But thankfully only one of these are left now: The scenery is dramatic: We drove by the rivers: High up in the mountains, still snow and not a lot of spring colour yet: And down into the valleys: That's a river to the left, and we're driving by it as far as you can see: No wonder the roads are narrow, with the sea on one side and the mountain on the other: Two hours away from home, gotta love those mountains! I hope you enjoyed the trip. We drove 8 hours on Friday, and then the same way back. This is our main connection to the rest of Norway, a Europe-road called E6 with a bit of E136 and E69 on it. There's another road that stays open all year too, but that takes longer and is a bit harder to drive. The scenery there is very good, though!
Your choice of music was perfect Droopy. Those photographs could easily have been taken in the highlands of Scotland as we have the same dramatic scenery. Aren't we lucky to have such lovely countryside in our countries? :-D Thanks for the trip it was most enjoyable.
What stunning scenery, Droopy!.....yeah, if I had that sort of landscape two hours from home , I'd rent an auto and take a drive too! you arranged them perfectly and placed the running commentary in such a way that it felt like I was sitting in the car. Such a sunny day and so much green blue and gray! I liked seeing the little yellow roadside flowers. I wonder what they were. The underpasses were a good touch and that action tunnel foto was supurb. You could make movies, miss! I know that it's Norway, but the scenery could have been in Alaska as well. It is so beautiful and so dramatic. You did such a good job taking pics. I hope that you have even more for us. Thanks loads.
Such beautiful scenery Droopy, as Sjoerd said it was as if we were on the trip with you. Thanks for taking the time to post them for us.
Breathtakingly beautiful... felt like I was there with you. Those pics would make a beautiful calendar. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, it was a nice drive both ways. The yellow flowers are dandelion, what else? The roads are a disgrace actually, but they didn't bother us much since we weren't in a hurry.
Your pictures are really great. As Sjoerd said, it reminds me of Alaska. Especially weekend drives my parents and I would take up to a place called Hatcher's Pass, or the drives down to Girdwood. I am glad you had a good time and it looks like the weather was fairly decent.
Thanks xylona. The weather was lovely while we were driving, but my! how it rained when we were outside playing for six hours.
Oh, my, what I wouldn't give to have scenery like that close to home. Glad you had a good and safe trip.
Beautiful Droopy,, I don't think I could live anywhere with out the mountains,, even tho half the time i don't see them sitting right in front of me,, We do have a beautiful country! Thank you for the trip to Lillehammer. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, and hope your well rested and relaxed.
Thanks Biita but I'm not. Trips like that wear me out completely. I have this feeling that I'm just getting too old for car holidays.
Thanks for taking us along. The scenery is wonderful and looks like many roads here but in different ways, if that makes any sense. Great choice of songs too! Glad your home safe. Thanks for sharing.
What a lovely drive out! Those mountains are just gorgeous and take me back to my skiing days. The last photo is my absolute fave!
