This is a collection of photos I took on a recent visit. The homes were decorated for Chistmas. The Museum of Appalachia, founded in 1969 by John Rice Irwin, portrays an authentic mountain farm/village with some three dozen historic log structures, exhibit buildings filled with thousands of authentic Appalachian artifacts, gardens surrounded by split rail fences, and farm animals in a picturesque setting. http://secure.smilebox.com/ecom/openThe ... yback_link
I loved that. Could you possibly slow down it down a bit, it was impossible to read the caption and look at the photo as quickly as they were changing.
Interesting window into Appalachian life. I did not know Mark Twain had a home there. I have been to his home in Hartford CT. Jerry
Thanks Toni, I should have made it slower when I made it. When I get a chance I will edit it and make it slower...I have to go back into smilebox to do it...good suggestion. Thanks Jerry, the it was the family home of Mark Twain's father, I think some of his siblings were born here before they moved to Missouri.
Hank it would go on mine too without a doubt if it wasn't so far away. I could lose myself there for hours on end and still want to see more. :-D
Thanks Hank. It is located in Clinton, TN just west of Knoxville. http://www.museumofappalachia.org/ Thanks Eileen and Cheryl, a fun place to visit.
Very interesting stuff, Gail. I like historical things. I found the insides of the structures quite interesting.
Sjoerd...So glad you enjoyed the tour. We went there for my husband's company Christmas party so we only had an hour to stroll the grounds before the party. We plan to go back in the late spring to take our time and go through all the buildings and exhibits.
Great photos! Really enjoyed seeing the pastures and critters. Your pictures of the buildings both inside and out really gave me a feeling of being there.
