We went to the mushroom festival yesterday. After the week or two of cooler weather it was 85 degs and sun/clouds. We walked around it once. It was crowded and hot. We had to sit at the Writer's Guild booth for an hour. It was inside and I enjoyed talking to people who stopped and I handed out information on the student writing contest and how to join the Writer's Guild. Then, we went and had a steak and mushroom sandwich. I did take my camera but remembered it was in my tote bag when we were on the way home. The kids were having a great time. There was a face painting booth and somewhere there was a booth where they got some sort of spray on their hair because there were kids with red, purple, yellow, orange, green, blue, and a mixture in stripes. I hope it washed out okay. There were a dozen food booths, an entertainment venue, and lots of craft and other booths. I don't sell there because they charge more than I think I should put out and the spaces are very small. But, it didn't rain until early this morning so that was a good thing. It's raining a steady slow rain. I don't know how long it will last but my little garden likes it. dooley
Wow, do they have lots of mushrooms in Texas? I always think of them hiding in the woods, at least that is where our best mushrooms grow. I always think mushroom hunting is the riskiest sport I have ever done, think it is safer to go white water rafting or climbing Mt. Rainier.
Karrma, the Monterey Mushroom company has a facility in Madisonville, Tx which is where Dooley and DR live Glendann lives there too. That gives the area the name of Mushroom Capital of Texas and they sponsor the festival. We do have mushrooms growing wild in some areas but I wouldn't try eating them.
