I have memories of a lovely Peony that my parents had in the backyard when I was growing up. I used to admire the buds and watch the ants and wait patiently for the buds to open so I could smell them. My Dad used to always tell me "don't touch your mothers Peony's". They always opened, as if magically, for my birthday and my father would always cut a few for me and bring them in on my birthday. It is one of my fondest childhood memories. When I grew up and had my own garden, I always made sure to have a Peony and they are still my favorite flower. Last fall my parents brought me a piece of that Peony from the backyard and you can just imagine how I felt this week when that plant gave me this

And it smells just as good as I remember!

Thank you for sharing your memory with us. :D How sweet of your parents to bring you a piece of your special peony.

Your peonies are all lovely, and you're way ahead of us. Our lactiflora peonies won't open for another couple of weeks, depending on the temperatures.

Beautiful Netty. I love your childhood memory. A lot of my favorite memories are from time spent in my Grandmothers garden and with my Mom in our garden.

Oh, what a wonderful story Netty! I'm so happy that "your" peony is now blooming in your garden! I like that continuity, the circle of life and family.

And it's beautiful to boot! As are the others you have.

Those Peonys are stunning. I don't grow them anymore, so it is always good to see them. You have such a nice selection.
The 5th and 6th ones I liked in particular.

Great memory story Netty. I have some day lilies from my Mom's and everytime they bloom it makes me think of her and home.

Mine are in full bloom now too and look beautiful. I bought an orange peony last fall, and although it's still a small plant, it produced two blooms this year. One of my favorite plants!

Oh, I love Peonies. They by far, are some of the most beautiful flowers in my gardens. I have 2 red ones and 2 double pink so far. Penny from Garden Stew gave me a few others the other day too. (Thank you again, Penny) :stew2:

Like you Netty, I have a few plants in my gardens from friends. I cherish them and the memories from some of my deceased friends who gave them to me.

Your Peony is lovely present that will bring you many smiles and good memories for years to come. What a wonderful jesture from your Dad & Mom.

I love all your other Peonies too!

They are stunning, so blousy and showey. I have 2 that I have grown from seed so no flowers again for me this year. I live in hope each year. I also have a tree peony, again grown from seed. One day I hope to have a flower as gorgeous as one of yours.

Finally my pink Peonies are starting to open :stew2:

I noticed your 7th Peony picture is almost the same as my pink Peony. Cool!

Sorry Netty, but unfortunately I haven't got a clue what the name of the Peony is. It was here when we moved into the house 12 years ago. I divided the Peony so now there is 2. I really need to divide it again.
