Well everybody, the labor has begun. For those of you that don't know, my fiance and I recently bought a house and the previous owners were serious gardeners. Problem is, they have been gone for 2 years and what was once a serene backyard space has turned into a jungle. I started with the patio (bite sized pieces are best) and this is phase one of its rehabilitation. Pulled out the major weeds on the patio side of the fence and prune back some overgrown bushes. Next week I'm going to finish pruning the shrub next to the shed, and get rid of more weeds...and hopefully move the rocks out to get better access to the weeds. I'll be posting updates to my whole backyard project on this thread so please subscribe! I'd love opinions, IDs, and any advice you could give. I'm very new at all this and I'm taking on a huge task (at least that's how I feel). Let me know what you think! I think you have alot of work on your hands. But you're on your way now! I look forward to see your progress and thanks for showing the before & afters.
You've already made a great start. Taking on a garden that's completely overgrown is no small task. I had the same problem when I moved into this place and at first I was really downheartened by the job that lay ahead of me. I found it so much easier to cope with one area at a time as you're doing. It would be totally overwhelming to take on the whole garden all at once. Keep going the way you are and before you know it you'll have a 'tamed' outdoor space that you'll be proud of.
WOW! Your hands must look awful. I know I should wear gloves. but I never seem to have them with me when I start pulling/trimming/cleaning... BUT you have made a great start there. At least you can see the fence now. Too bad the mess is still on the other side, huh? Time and more hard work... Keep it up. You are doing a great job.
I Love before and after photos, and yours are off to a great start! You sure have your hands full with the project, but it will be all worth it in the end. Keep up the great work!

You are doing well, very well! And taking a bit at a time is the perfect approach--you get to see immediate results (and we do, too!) and have time to think about what comes next. One suggestion--get that vine that has reached from the fence to attach itself to the house off the house! It is incredible what a vine can do to siding--stains are the least of it. Thanks for sharing your progress, and we're all looking forward to the next batch of photos!
Well I graduated from college this weekend. My parents came down and stayed in our house (which my fiance hasn't moved into yet) and they brought all their yard equipment and did SO MUCH. Here's the pics of what it looks like now. There's still work to be done but it looks good right? OH! Congratulations, first and secondly, You FORTUNATE young man. Your parents are great. it looks like you all got so much accomplished.
