Out on an intertidal gathering over the weekend. Sharing a hairy crab. It was taken at about 2020 hrs. Hope you like it. ( photo / image / picture from songlim18's Garden )
Oh wow, that is the craziest looking crab I've ever seen. What kind of crab is it? It's not so much "teddy bear" as it is grizzly bear. But great pic none the less.
Oh my goodness.. That's just wild. Is that vegetative growth on him or is it part of him? I too, would like to know more. I'm thinking of that saying -- moss can't grow on a rolling stone -- he looks like a stone that hasn't been rolling much lately..
I think that I have seen one of these before, Song...when I was in Malaysia. Inspecting tidal pools was something that I did alot of and I sure did co0me across some very interesting things. This furry character takes me back.
Hairy crabs are commonly seen on rocky and coral rubble areas. The body is about 5cm wide and the entire crab is covered with long, silky hairs. These trap sediments allowing the crab to blend perfectly with its surroundings. It also moves slowly and thus overlooked as some bit of drifting rubbish.
