Chance first alerted us to the two gnomes who moved into our garden. They have been there for a week or so now. Chance has not given us any report of problems. The two gnomes appear to be quite elderly with white hair and beard. They say they are not eccentric, just retired. I have to say though, take it from one who knows, retired and eccentric often go hand in hand. These two old fellows seem to spend the day sitting on mushrooms, playing chess. They claim it keeps their minds active, though not much else is. Chance is not concerned from a security standpoint but she does check on them occasionally to see if they need anything. So far their needs are minimal-a comfortable mushroom, the occasional pipefull of tobacco and now and again, a tankard of ale. They spend their time in a quiet garden corner, deeply involved in the strategy of the game. Not a bad life. DR
DR. You must tell Chance to keep a closer eye on those two though. Chess is often a favourite pastime of the more intellectual, stealthy gnome. It is used as a smokescreen during the day while at night they get up to mischief. It is often said that they pass secret code messages to each other using certain chess moves. For example: - Knight to B4 means Chance is watching us - Bishop to E3 means I hate Chance - Queen to F5 means Operation Veggie Steal will commence at 00:13 tonight You get the picture Just letting you know, never trust a gnome. Not even me
You write some lovely stories DR , great imagination, Its just got me thinking would anyone on Gardenstew like a game of chess, we could use our own boards and just post replies 8) Bugs
I can't play chess - can't get my head around the rules!!! I'll leave it up to our mischevious gnomes. :-D
DR, you must have a special garden for gnomes of that class to take up residence. Chance better keep his distance. Frank, I will have to look thru the Gnomes and Gardens book I have. It has been a few years since I read it and I'll bet I can find those codes in there.
To Frank: I am in a bit of a quandry. I was going to pass on to Chance your information. However, if you can't trust gnomes, then the question becomes is it information or misinformation. I have to study this before I present it to our security person. DR
