This is outside a business in Glen Rose, Texas. There has been controversy concerning whether it is art or trash. An antique shop owner we met there was telling us that the problem was with a new resident of their quite little town who decided that it was trash and took it upon himself to be a one man committee trying to convince the city council to make the owner destroy it. This shop owner happened to be on the committee that was formed to protect the VW from harm, they were successful and that new resident is not very liked by the people born and raised there. Pushy non-Texan learned a lesson about trying to make small town Texans follow the lead of a big city outsider.

The paint job is the same on both sides...can you see the eyes painted on the headlights?

I think it's cute! Better than some rusted out piece of junk or a falling down building. Or worst... a field of weeds.
In "deep" East Texas in a little town of Zavalla, they had an old truck (barely still have it's paint job but in tack and preserved) and they would keep it decorated year round with LOTS of beautiful flowers. Because of vandals, it just sits there. Bare. Makes me sad to go by it anymore.

How could anyone say that that isn't a work of art? I love it!! I'd have one on either side of my front garden if I could. What a lovely way to use an old car. So much better than having it rusting away in field or in a back street.

Trash? Was that guy crazy? This is one of those sights that gets you to stop and investigate.
    Ok it's not road-worthy but it's definitely garden-worthy :)

I guess the new resident has nothing better to do than to complain. I have a funny feeling they won't be living there too long ...

Definitely better than rusting junk all over a field! That is a very cute "garden bug".
We are "pushy" outsiders (been in Texas for 17 years) that were horrified at the condition of buildings, roadsides, and fields when we moved here. We bought a place from a born and bred Texan and spent a year cleaning up junk, trash, and unidentifiable debris. Love of the land doesn't come with a birth certificate.

Love of the land isn't exclusive, but this guy was trying to basically make other's conform to his idea of what is and isn't acceptable art. ;)
