Trumpet fanfare--the winners of the Name the Chick contest are: Droopy, Valkyrie Anightowl, Lulu Jerry, Miss Moneypenny Song of Joy, Sweet Pea gfreiherr, Aggie(couldn't pass that one up with Aggie being the nickname of a Texas A&M student or graduate. I like the thought of having an Aggie in the coop!) Sjoerd, Veronica Stratsmom, Hennypenny You will notice there are seven winners--one chick is a rooster, and will be moving down the road to lord it over Corrine's flock. I thank you all for your ideas and the chuckles you have shared. Y'all are so inventive! Now, we have about 200,000 unnamed bees . . . .
Great names folks and congratulations on picking the winners. I think the chicks will soon learn to come running when they are called. :-D
Wow!....So, you've got them. I am surprised that you could make the choices so quickly. Hat off to you. I shal be watching for progress notes keenly and hope that they all make it into adulthood and give you endless hours of fun and pleasure.
We must know Jane.... did you pick the names yourself or did you have to let the chickens "peck" their own? :-D
Oh, what great names. Are you going to make them little collars with name tags so you know which one you are hollering at or just do what my grandmother did with her 7 kids, just go through the list of names until the one she was looking at responded.
Cheryl, I chose the names--our little flock is developing a pecking order and I didn't want the biggest and sturdiest chick to get the first choice of names! Toni, they are distinguishable--I can tell one from the other (Lulu has a white feather on her left wing, Valkyrie has more yellow on her head, etc.). Again, thanks to you all for making a fun time of naming my chicks. I'll keep you posted on their progress, with pictures. They are moving out of the mini-coop and into the full inside coop at the end of this week. They grow up so fast. Next step, kindergarten . . . .
Wow, it's the first time I've named a little chick. All the suggestions were good and I think I would have bred hens like crazy in order to use all the names. Thanks for including my suggestion. I hope she grows up to be as fierce and independent as she should be with a name like that.
Cool... I cant wait to see pics of the little darlings. Are you going to play classical music like Wagner's "Flight of The Valkyrie" for them ? It might make them lay better perhaps. Hmmm.. As soon as I can figure out how to get music out to my chicken coop, I might try it too.
