Damn racoons stole my wire bird feeder! Yesterday, I had filled it with the last of the sunflower seeds for this year. I told the birds they better eat it slow. We got back from in town this morning and my wife said " What did you do with the bird feeder?" Sure enough, it was gone. We went out and looked at where it was and you can see a trail of seeds where they rolled it across the yard. It gets to the brushy area and then disappears. How much do you bet, I won't be able to find another one like it either!

I got some old clothes on and went out into the brush looking for the feeder. I finally found it. It had gotten caught on a piece of dead limb and they couldn't roll it any further. They still took it about 100 yards away from the tree that it was hanging in. Had to be racoons.

    Those naughty raccoons.
Is the feeder one of the wire ones that collapse and are supposed to be squirrel proof?

Glad you were able to find it, hope it wasn't destroyed.

They did that to us too when we lived in the country... they took one of the small finch bird feeders that I can't even find anymore to replace. The finches loved it. At least you found yours. We walked through our 3 acres /with woods and never did find it. We started taking our feeders down at night and then the raccoons left the area. They are cute but pesky...those naughty raccoons.

Toni, that's the one. And they are squirrel proof too. I loved it because the top where you fill it, has latches on it that have to be slid to unlatch it. We got this one 2 years ago at TSC, but I don't know if they still carry them or not. One of the best feeders I have ever had. I bet I have fed 500 pounds of sunflower seeds through it in 2 years.

I have two of those you can have. I bought them at TSC after you mentioned them, filled them with black oil sunflower seeds and within an hour there was a squirrel hanging by his back toes and swinging up to grab seeds with his front toes. He had that feeder empty in a very few hours.

I only feed safflower seeds now, that got rid of the squirrels and the grackles. But those seeds are too small and fall right thru the holes in the wire feeders.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago...I would find my empty finch feeder up in the tree branches! I started bringing the feeders in at night and the coons moved on.

Toni, I hang mine from a squirrel baffle, so the squirrels can't get to it. I don't know how the coons managed to get it down from the hanger. Here is a pic of it.

I hope those racoons didn't damage the feeder CK. They have such dexterous little hands that they must have found it quite easy to remove it. Trouble is once they know how it's done they'll keep on taking it off unless you find some way to foil them. Good luck!!

I'm so glad you found the feeder. I've had trouble with the raccoons getting into my peanut feeders. They are pesky creatures but I guess they get hungry too. lol

I had no idea raccoons could be so naughty and resourceful. They don't live around my neighborhood.

Pardon me for laughing, but I find your racoon stories hilarious. Of course I don't have to live with them, which probably is why I find your stories hilarious. :D

It isn't funny to have those racoons stealing from you, but like Droopy, I was kind of snickering and picturing cartoon racoons making off into the woods with the feeder and having a party.
