I am a cactus "fanatic", and have a lot of plants. Many cactus flowers are really stunning and big, but there are none blue one. Well, there are on blueish But I do like blue flowers :-D Passiflora × violacea ( photo / image / picture from Christer Johansson's Garden ) Solanum laciniatum ( photo / image / picture from Christer Johansson's Garden ) Blue flower ( photo / image / picture from Christer Johansson's Garden ) Nymphaea 1 ( photo / image / picture from Christer Johansson's Garden ) Nymphaea 2 ( photo / image / picture from Christer Johansson's Garden ) I don't know why I like the last one so much
I could tell that you like cacti by your avatar. When we lived in Arizona we had some saguaro in the yard. They grow very slowly and very tall. The ones we had were just beginning to get their arms. They have flowers in May and they look like someone laid a sunny side up egg on the top of them. They have long thorns for a cactus (about two inches), very sharp. They have a sap? that hurts and the pain lasts several days. I accidentally backed into one once. Ouch! There are many different types, all with thorns. Most are yellow or white or pink colored. They are beautiful but not to be handled by the faint of heart. dooley
For me, you are the lucky one (not that you backed into a cactus, of course). Sometime in the future I want to see, touch, smell and take a picture of a flowering saguaro in habitat. Here in Sweden we only have cacti in pots, and I do have one saguaro in a pot; a small one I guess that you really appreciate the plants you don't have around you in the "fields"
You and I have something in common Christer - a love of blue flowers. :-D Your photographs are beautiful. I especially like the two blue waterlilies. I've never seen ones that colour before and I know I just wouldn't be able resist them if I saw them for sale here.
Lovely shots Christer! I like cacti too -- they don't grow here but I travel to the Southwest with some regularity and get to see them there. There are so many different kinds,it's amazing. Here... I can't even get a pot cactus to grow... I guess I love them with too much water or something...
Your blooms are gorgeous and beautifully photographed too. There are several large Prickly Pear Cacti planted in yards in my area. The 'pears' are beginning to ripen and turn color. I will try to get some pictures of them as they get darker over the next month or so.
Great blues! Love the flower on the cactus. We get lots of cacti around here... but not too many that bloom... well... I had one with yellow blooms last year... but nothing as striking as the one you have here!
I like photographing cacti in the wild. As far as the saguaro is concerned, I have yet to see it in flower. When I go to Arizona it is always in March, and that is to early for them. In my Nature site I have a page of the States official wildflower and through my photos and those sent to me I have them all except Montana. I did manage to receive a flower of the saguaro, AZ flower.
Beautiful! All of them. I like blue flowers too, but prefer them in the garden. I am no good with house plants, sorry to say.
