I had a day at the allotment last week, clearing up and weeding as things finish. My lovely sweetpea wigwams are now bare, the plants dried and dead so I gathered them up to fling on the compost heap. Before sending them to the heap, I did grab a few pods to see if the seeds were any good, and just look at their desire to grow! Already chitting inside the pod. ( photo / image / picture from EJ's Garden ) I guess the damp, mild weather has started them off, so I immediately cleared a patch, put up a new wigwam and sowed the seeds. As sweetpeas are hardy, they won't mind being out all winter, and apparently I will be rewarded with earlier flowers than a spring sowing gives. Fingers crossed that their desire to grow keeps going.
OO all that lovely fresh new growth appearing. There's just something really special about those first sprouts isn't there? :-D
Looking good, EJ. You will get a nice and early start with those. I'm running behind and have not even ordered my Lathyrus for the coming season yet. I am jelous of those chitting seeds of yours.
Oooh, nice! You're lucky to be able to sow them now. Here the frost will kill them, since they're not that hardy. *sigh* I'm looking forward to seeing your early sweetpea blooms.
