I started tomatoes, herbs and peppers in January and they are up and growing. The tomatoes just got up-potted and I may have overdone it (45 cherry tomato plants) but I'll interview prospective adoptive parents and give many away.
The guest bedroom smells of damp earth--not a bad odor!

These are two of the tomato cells before I separated them out for up-potting. Each cell had two tomatoes in it, the result of a good germination rate.

I can hardly wait to get out in the garden and plant them!

Jane, They look great. An oscillating fan blowing on them will help to make nice sturdy stems as they grow, too. (I just brush my hand over the foliage as I look at them, One: to check for any aphids, two: to make them sturdy and three:...I just like the smell :-D it's spring).

I won't be able to start any seeds for at least a few weeks yet.

Those tomato seedlings are doing great. They look better than the stuff from the nursery.
I noticed down on the bottom of your shelf a box of Miracle Gro? Do you feed a bit to your seedlings? If so, how diluted?

It's rise and shine time for those seedlings. They are looking good and healthy.

Cheryl, I hate to admit it but the box of Miracle Gro actually has a plastic bag of sifted manure in it. I add a bit to the water when I bottom water the plants. There is still a bit of the MG stuck to the plastic bag, and I'm using those dandy little measuring spoons that come with it, so my seedlings may be getting some MG, but mostly cow poo.
When I used MG up north (shortage of cows) I used it at 1/4 strength until I up-potted, and then at half strength until the plants went into the garden.
How do I remember all this, you ask? I have my old garden journals--they have made two moves with me!
