I got my jeep ready for winter.Old blanket-Have come on someone who has gone off road.Just barely could see tracks. But also got cat litter-good for if you slide off.Folding shovel. And coffee can big candle-can keep you warm. Those feet and finger warmer thing. And first-aid kit.And Duct tape +cell phone.
Good advice KK. Make sure you also have the telephone number of your rescue service handy and a reflective jacket and warning triangle.
Granola bars, bottles of water, flares, extra socks in case you have to walk in rain or snow, a pair of rubber boots, towels, extra gloves.
I use to go out and clean at 4 am.And have to go very slow.I put my heavy warm boots on when driving.Seen accident. -20* and lady had high heels and nylons. No extra shoes. And her child not dressed right.
KK,good advice for peeps that have to be on the road. For myself,if it even sounds like it can get bad,I'm staying home. sNs
Fifty odd years ago when I lived in New Mexico. Getting stuck might mean you would find yourself 10-50 miles from nowhere, I was told by then an old-timer, more comfortable in a saddle than a car, to keep some baling wire in the trunk along with the spare tire and a jack. I don't know how many times that wire has come in handy, either for me or someone else stuck on the road but when you need it, you can thank your lucky stars. Today, baling wire is harder to come by so I now carry 20 feet of stainless steel wire but the usage is still the same. Jerry
I do have tow rope. I also had my tire taken off from under the Jeep. But I have never changed a tire before. And couldn't do it now.But DH checked on his new pickup. NO tire. He had that happen before. And had a flat.
Doc My friend and customer told me last night. Should have any kind of liquid pop,In cooler wrapped so does not freeze.7-up was best.If come on someone with low-blood sugar.I think might need bigger Jeep
. . . This is a great thread, K-Kid.. It gives what might turn out to be life-saving advice to people who drive in very low temperature environments.. It doesn't have be below freezing, 35 derees with dampness can kill you if you've no protection... Hank
One of my customer is a first responder. She said a tarp that has holes so rope can be put through-to pull person away from car. In first aid kit.Duct tapes holds gauge down in rain, snow. Can be used X way for stitches.I have heard person who had curved needle and floss tape. To sew a person.Don't know if I could do that.
Well going to get our first big storm starting Wed. Said our area of Iowa 8 inches + 50mph winds. And bought door lock unfreeze spray. When I was a kid close kind of storms was every week thing.
