Good advice KK. Make sure you also have the telephone number of your rescue service handy and a reflective jacket and warning triangle.

Granola bars, bottles of water, flares, extra socks in case you have to walk in rain or snow, a pair of rubber boots, towels, extra gloves.

Fifty odd years ago when I lived in New Mexico. Getting stuck might mean you would find yourself 10-50 miles from nowhere, I was told by then an old-timer, more comfortable in a saddle than a car, to keep some baling wire in the trunk along with the spare tire and a jack. I don't know how many times that wire has come in handy, either for me or someone else stuck on the road but when you need it, you can thank your lucky stars. Today, baling wire is harder to come by so I now carry 20 feet of stainless steel wire but the usage is still the same.

I do have tow rope. I also had my tire taken off from under the Jeep. But I have never changed a tire before. And couldn't do it now.But DH checked on his new pickup. NO tire. He had that happen before. And had a flat.

This is a great thread, K-Kid..
It gives what might turn out to be life-saving advice to people who drive in very low temperature environments.. It doesn't have be below freezing, 35 derees with dampness can kill you if you've no protection...

In first aid kit.Duct tapes holds gauge down in rain, snow. Can be used X way for stitches.I have heard person who had curved needle and floss tape. To sew a person.Don't know if I could do that.
