Every evening after supper Chance and I go sit in the front yard and I take the camera. Chance checks things out and I sit and wait for the birds to come to the tub. The cardinals generally swoop down and have a drink and leave. This woodpecker will not come down out of the tree. It goes up and down and round and round the tree, all the time hollering at me to leave so he can have a drink. I think he'd like to come down and drink because once in awhile he swoops down across the tub but he doesn't stop.

I think I will just check out this hole while I'm waiting. Maybe it will make a nice home for the cold weather.

    That sure is a beauty!
I have a red bird that does the same thing with me when I try to get a photo of it at the bath.

I'm sure your woodpecker will, in time, get used to you being outdoors when he's around. Mine took ages before they realised I wasn't any threat to them. Your photographs are great Dooley and I'm so glad he hung about on the tree to let you snap him for us.

Dooley I love those ladder back woodpeckers. Great pic. The hole in the tree almost looks like the heart shaped hole I saw on a tree this last summer. Very neat. :stew1:

Such a beautiful bird. I'm certain he'll realize that you're the one keeping the tub full and stop being so shy around you.
