I while back I mentioned that I had set up a trade with a nice man that owns a resale shop. Last weekend, we finally made our trade. Some of my Louisiana Black Iris for some of his Yellow Water Irises.
While there, we chatted more about flowers. I told him that I had learned the name of his "Peanut Butter Bush" and he was thrilled to finally know it's scientific name (thanks to Toni).
He gave me a start from a Cereus (Night Blooming) Plant. I asked what could I bring him in exchange. He said "Nothing... I appreciate the info you gave me."
He asked what all I had growing and, of course I had my camera with me, so I was showing him some photos. He almost jumped for joy when he saw that I had some Pride of Barbados. He said he'd been trying to find some more since his brother-in-law mowed his down!
So, I told him I'd bring him some seeds. Plus some of the Ballerina Angel Trumpet. And some Texas Star Hibiscus. And some Hyacinth Bean Vine (he REALLY liked those!).
He gave me an envelope of Bird House Gourd seeds. We said our thanks and away I went.
    Fast forward to today...
My boss has been wanting to get rid of this old dresser.

It's pretty neat... and old. Even had wooden casters! But it wasn't in very good condition. Lots of cracks and the drawers didn't work smoothly. Plus she didn't know if she still had the mirror for it.
I said I'd take it. On the drive home, I kept asking myself where in the world would I put it?
Then it came to me... why not stop by the resale shop and see if my new seed-trading-buddy would like it!
Luckily I got there right before they were closing up shop for the day. He and his wife came out to the truck and checked it out. She asked how much I wanted for it. I said I didn't have a clue to what it was worth... how about $10? She said I'll give you $20 or you can pick something out of the shop in exchange. Sounded good to me!
    Here's what I got...

A beautiful, still-in-the-package stained-glass butterfly suncatcher! It's 12 inches wide and about 36 inches from top to bottom!
I'm debating on putting it outdoors or just keeping it right here in the computer room!

Oh Cheryl I envy you your Butterfly Suncatcher. It's beautiful and I think you got a great deal on the old dresser. I'm so pleased for you and I'm sure the man at the resale shop is delighted with everything you gave him too.

    Nice story!
But... I would have kept the furniture. I think...
    Although those butterflies are gorgeous!

Cheryl, That was a very nice dresser. Good trade for you, too. The dresser is only of value if you have the need and space for it. Your butterfly trade was good. Hope you enjoy it wherever you decide to put it. If it's a suncatcher...maybe in the window if you keep it inside the house where it will be safe. Although you might want to put it out with your butterfly drinking puddle. Maybe a few would be fooled into coming in for a drink.

Eileen... he and his wife are the nicest folks. He seems to be the one that loves the plants. I hope the seeds he'll be getting really produce for him.

Calin... I measured and measured... but just couldn't find a place to put it. Otherwise, I would have kept it. I even thought of just putting it in the garage to add to my "one day I'm going to have a garage sale" pile.
But like Carolyn, it's only of value IF I had the need & space.
So trading it away turned out to be the best solution.

Very pretty suncatcher, nice to have people like that you can work a trade like that with. I would keep it in the computer room in front of a window so the light will make the stain glass sparkle.

I have been looking for a dresser or chest of drawers made of wood instead of the particle board stuff.

    Cheryl,
There has to be a great horse-trader in your ancestry! Good trade when everyone is happy.

    Thanks Jane and Philip...
I love trades! They are so much more fun than paying for something with money. :D

I'll have to move it around over the weekend and see where it wants to live.
I'd probably get to see it more if it were outside. But then with the blistering sun and wind... I'm afraid it wouldn't last as long as if it were indoors.
But then.... I'm rarely indoors... except in the evening.
So I really wouldn't get to enjoy it in a window.
It does brighten up that corner of the computer room.
Hmmmm..... Hope I don't break it moving it around so much!
    :-D

Great suncatcher and a great story. I think the bureau would be iffy iffy. You will enjoy the Butterfly Suncatcher more and it will remind you what a great trader you are.
