Usually when there's a butterfly hanging around, they just flit-about for a while and then leave. This little guy stayed around for hours! I must have taken 20 pictures. I couldn't decide on just one... butterfly1 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) butterfly2 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) butterfly3 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Great shots, he/she might have just come out of the chrysalis and needed food fast!! Most butterflies don't have an underside that looks the same as the top side which makes IDing a bit hard, do you know what species it is?
Sadly, I don't know my butterfly species. But here's a shot of his back. It's not very good, but maybe it could help with the ID'ing? ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
It looks like a Black Swallowtail, thought it was but really couldn't be sure from the underside. http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species?l=1356
Great shots...we have only had the small white ones around so far. I usually take about 30 or more shots of them at a time...no wonder my computer has so many pictures on it.
