As I was pulling up the Microstegium vimineum (Japanese Stilt Grass), I grabbed this plant and actually was lured back to the wheelbarrow by the most amazing scent! It was a spicy-perfumey-minty-vanilla scent. I may not be giving it's scent justice.

I was thrilled to see the roots, so I replanted it and hope to learn what it is.

luckily I got a good bit of root ( photo / image / picture from CrisGzr's Garden )

Here is a detail of the stem and leaves

...any ideas? Looks minty but pretty large about 18 inches tall.

I hope to find out what this is, I'd like to plan a little section of this plant.

    Is this Sweet Joe-Pye Weed?
    Eupatoriadelphus purpureus
    Aster family (Asteraceae)

I hope it continues growing so I can see some flowers!

No clue! Like you, I think it looks like a mint, only larger leaves. And you know how easy mint takes root. Would like to know !

Ah, I went to show my husband and it was dead. It looks like a Sweet Joe Pie Weed. Maybe the roots will take hold but the leaves were all wilted and dead :-(

too bad the sweet joe pye weed has an interesting medicinal use LOL

I think it looks like a mint plant, too. replant the root section and keep it watered, but cut off most of the stem. I don't think it is joe pye weed. Joe pye weed grows in a clump, too. I just bought one in the burgundy color and it doesn't look like this.
