    Wow! Gorgeous shots! You can really photograph well Philip. I love the sun shining through the petals and the brightness of the colors. I don't know how you do it. They look professional.

    Hi Cayuga Morning,
    thank you for the compliments,..its a combination of the small camera and just seeing the sun hitting a flower,..i often watched the sun beams moving along the flowers in the evening,..then at the right spot just click,..it doesn't always work out but most times it does.
    ======================================================

    Hi Hank,
    thank you,..ohhhh thinking of a veggie plot and wishing for enough room to grow veg is always on my mind,..i was given the go ahead to grow veg out on the Victorian Estate,..but after thinking on it over the winter i declined the offer,..no running water for a start plus its 12 miles from home.

    ====================================================

    Hi Deanna,
    seeing a picture of your Hollyhocks some time back gave me the bug to grow them,..i knew a man who had Hollyhocks and asked him to keep some seeds for me,..pink and lemon were the first to try,..but this time he promises more colours,..he has a black one,..that should be interesting,..i think,.. :-? .

    Trouble about a Cottage Garden is that the small paths through the garden close in with flowers,..its fine when not wet.

    Oh I do love those Delphiniums Philip!! You have a really lovely garden which I'm a little envious of to say the least.

    "Trouble about a Cottage Garden is that the small paths through the garden close in with flowers,..its fine when not wet."

    I'm finding that out today as we're in the middle of a thunderstorm here with torrential rain. :rolleyes:

    Hi Cheryl,
    thank you,..don't you just love those descriptions of Deanna's,.. :) ,..it really does explain all.

    ====================================================

    Hi Eileen,
    i was very pleased with the my three blue coloured Delphiniums,..there are some more yet to flower and one is a yellow,..but i feel the others are leaving it a bit late in the season to flower,..still maybe they sense something i am not aware of.

    Soooo you also had a thunderstorm,..ours was during the week,..as for torrential rain,..we had lots of it today so like your garden,.. no wandering through the garden today,..i have Lavender with scented foliage,..various Mints,..Curry Bush,..Thyme,..Purple Fennel,..Lemon Balm,..Tangerine Sage all positioned where you touch them when walking about,..no way today.

    We both get lots of variation weather wise but i know you get the worst of it where you are,..but we both seldom have to worry about watering plants,..
    :rolleyes: .

    Beautiful show of blooms, Philip! :stew1:

    I also loved the hollyhocks and Delphinium, and those roses were so good-looking I could eat them. :D

    We don't have to worry much about watering plants either.

    Hi Droopy,
    Hollyhocks and Delphiniums,..real Cottage Garden residents,..the Hollyhocks had to be watched because of all the rain it is said to keep the leaves dryish,..hard to do in our climate,..and yours of course,..likewise with the roses,..wet for long periods and you get Mildew so i always have a household mixture on hand for spraying both plants in fact all plants.

    Crocosmia,..are thriving with all the rain.

    Those little paths of yours are delightful. :D I noticed the Crocosmia. Ours are doing ok, but they are kind of flat out after some hard rain and even harder wind. :(

    The paths are a great advantage in that the dogs always have a path to take to avoid me when i am in a hurry carrying something,..plus they like doing the rounds.

    Sorry to hear about your Crocosmia,..the rain does them good,..alas the wind thrashes them,..luckily mine are in close groups so one bamboo support and some green garden twine will do the job,..lol,..you can not see the twine.

    Just beautiful,Phillip.My favs are the roses & delphiniums.Hollyhocks say country cottage garden but I have about given up on them due to those Japanese Beetles.Course they eat the roses up too but I can get a fall show.It would help if it would just rain.
    I admire your photography expertise,too. I find shots in bright sun iffy at best.

    Hi SewnSow,
    i have to admit roses are top of my list,..i seem to be drawn to them,..cuttings,seeds,grafts,..there is so much you can do with them,..and like you Delphiniums and Hollyhocks are on my favorites list,.and were always in mind for the garden,..however i didn't want to break my own rule and buy some,..i always intended to stock the garden from seeds and cuttings,..last year i was given a heap of seeds which included Delphiniums,Larkspur,Hollyhocks,Calendula,and in return i gave away several rose bushes i grew from seed and cuttings,..it was a good swap.

    I had no problem with the Hollyhocks,..they can be prone to attack from the Beetle and rust but i spray with my own household mix at least once a week.

    1 Tablespoon Veg Oil
    1 Tablespoon Cider Vinegar
    1 Tablespoon Liquid Soap
    1 1/2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
    1 Teaspoon of Listerine

    Added to approx 1 Gallon of water

    As these are all household items its a cheap spray.
    ====================================================

    Now and then i use a more expensive spray.

    1 Teaspoon Neem Oil
    Quarter Teaspoon of Liquid Soap
    1 Quart of warm water

    This mix is also good to kill Fleas and Ticks.

    The Neem Oil is approx £9 or approx $11 for 100 ml
