Do you ever wonder what makes those big holes on the sides of leaves. Well here is one of the answers. In picture as well. The damage ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden ) This is the damage, A leaf cutter bee. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden ) They use the pieces for nest building.
I don't mind the solitary bees taking bits from my plants to build their nests but I hate when the earwigs chew holes in my clematis buds.
They sure have a good sense of geometry... nice and round. Around here.. it's usually grasshoppers or locusts eating up all the plants. I think I'd much prefer the bee.
Bees seem to be good at geometry circles and hexagons being their forte. Jerry P.S. Eileen, earwigs make holes in Clematis?
Very interesting!,..i had forgotten about the Bee,..but i won't BEE-Grudge them a round or two,..its the others!!.
