I went out to get the hummingbird feeder this morning so I could clean and refill it. Got buzzed by two little hummingbirds who must have thought I was taking breakfast away.
I stopped to look at the roses. I think most of the buds have bloomed so I need to take my clippers out and deadhead them. I see some black spots on the leaves that will have to be clipped and put in the trash can. I need to buy some rose food and feed them up good and tie the new branches to the fence so they know where to grow. I'll spray the bushes that have the black spots with some milk. That should keep it from spreading to the rest. I see some branches that are dry that will need trimmed off. I'm thinking of clipping a few branches and starting them along the fence to see if I can get more coverage next year. Although my mom never clipped hers. She took a longer branch and fastened it to the ground and put dirt over it and it sprouted new branches along the old one. I don't think I have any branches long enough to reach where I want them though.
My mom had some climbing roses that had small pink roses that were really pretty. I can't remember the name of them. It had something "sister" in the name.
I think I'll ask wannabe if she remembers the name of them and I can look and see if I can find some of them.

Dooley I know there's a climbing rose by the name of 'Seven sisters rose bush.' It has lots of small pink or red flowers. I don't know if this is the one you're thinking of though.

It was an old rose. I think it was in the 1960's when they went back to a place where my dad lived when he was a kid. The house was gone but the trees and flowers were there. They dug up the roses and some trees and planted them into a house they had just built. They wanted to take it with them when they moved to Arizona but Arizona didn't allow plants into the state without them being certified or something.I think I will look for a place that sells roses and see if I can find one or two or three or more. They bloomed all summer long, I think.

Glad your roses are out for you. It's good you know how to take care of those black spots Dooley, I'd be putting up a post to all you guys asking for advice. I've tried to grow roses, but I think I keep getting the wrong type, we have tough winters here (usually) and I always end up loosing them, so I've given up.

Dooley.... did your roses kinda look like these?
I can remember these being here when I was a kid.... in the 1960s. They just grew along the fence... and still do. But they don't last all summer... just for a few weeks. I don't know if that's just how they are... or because they don't get any attention?

Cheryl I don't think so. The stems has clusters of small pink roses instead of a big rose. Mom had them on a trellis between the side door and the front door. They grew clear up the trellis. I think they might have been seven sisters but maybe one of the other "kids" will know. There were seven kids in the family. Thanks for the pictures though.

Dooley... these aren't very big. Here's another photo showing their size.

and I thought they were called the 7-sisters because there was 7 girls in my mom's family.

Maybe those are the ones. They look like them, I think. I will watch for them. We sometimes get a rose catalog. Maybe I can find it online. Thanks.
