We moved into our house 18 months ago. last spring this little plant sprung at teh bottom of a pole on our deck and I was excited to have something that might climb the pole and produce colorful flowers - I was very disappointed. It never got any taller than it is in this picture I just took Sunday, but it was green all summer, died off and has just recently reappeared. Is it some kind of bienniel that will make me happy this summer or should I be planting some other kind of climber in its place?
It looks live Vinca, which is a ground cover. In stays green all year here, but in Zone 5 it may die back. Try a morning glory for your pole, they are easy to start from seed and climb quickly and flower quickly also.
I would say Vinca, also. I have some by my front fence. It gets small purple flowers on it. It will spread by itself here and should where you are. I had some in Wisconsin and my in-laws had some in New York. dooley
