Somehow, saying "Happy Veteran's Day" in the face of images like this one just isn't appropriate. Instead I'll say a heartfelt THANK YOU to all our veterans. Your service is deeply and profoundly appreciated. ( photo / image / picture from Ronni's Garden )
I'm also saying thank you to all the veterans from all the wars. My dad and uncles served in WW II. I like one way our town remembers. A few weeks before Remembrance Day our town hangs posters on every lamp post throughout the town. As you travel through the town you see all the faces of the men and women who served. What I appreciate about the posters is that they included the Union Jack along with the Canadian flag. They fought under the Union Jack, not the currant Canadian Maple Leaf flag. I know that time moves on and things change but I am of the generation of the Union Jack so it still holds a special spot in my heart. Here is a picture of a few. In the inset is one of DH's uncles. I am not originally from here so my relatives are not posted. Lest We Forget ( photo / image / picture from Chrisle's Garden )
http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/07/world/eur ... ?hpt=wo_c2 888,246 ceramic poppies around the Tower of London to remember WWI dead...and those are only the British and Colonial dead. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WWI and today, still being called Armistice Day in other parts of the world, they planted the last poppy this morning at 11 a.m. So yeah, we all have a lot to thank the Veterans for.
My husband was a Navy corpsman. Our three sons were all in the military. One of my three brothers did two tours in Vietnam and died in a plane crash on the way home. He had over 20 years in the Navy. The other two brothers also were in the military. dooley
