With all of the rain and humid weather, we are having a higher than normal crop of baby toads. These are like 1/2 inch long and all over the place. The other day when I was mowing I must have seen 59 or 60. And that's just the ones that I saw! I try not to run over them with the mower, but if I can't see them I can't dodge them. Anyone else having a toad out break?

Not at all. Sounds disgusting. They will go away soon enough.

By the millions here. I was pulling weeds in the corn on friday and they were everywhere. I was mowing around the patch...they were everywhere. I had one in a bowl of water next to the greenhouse this morning... had to fish it out.

On the other hand there were gobs of little pink lady bugs all over the corn, too. I take the toads and lady bugs as a sign of a healthy environment.

We have two resident toads--one on the patio, and the other near the front door. They just hang around and eat bugs!
We have loads of frogs in the pond. At dusk we get a chorus of croaks and at dawn sleepy peeps.

I recently found my Toad again, thought I had lost him to a neighbor dog or some one's soup pot. I keep wishing I had a couple more to help with the fly and mosquito out break.

We have tons of toads every year. My neighbor has a pond, in fact every neighbor has a pond! One has to be very careful when cutting grass and trimming. When you are driving down our roads on a rainy day, there are toads hopping everywhere!! Oddly enough, there aren't many frogs. Hubby loves frogs and can't remember the last time he saw a Bullfrog.

Come to think of it I can't remember having seen a Frog in years either. Our one and only Toad is Bufo speciosus Texas Toad.

Hehe, I love toads! I think they are cute. We have spade toads around here. Got lots of frogs down at the creek that croak every evening keeping time with the katydids'. Our resident mocking bird couple will get to going around 6:30 and yall just outta hear it then. Hehe, my mockingbirds sound off all the time but its funny in he evening lime they are trying to drown out the frogs.

I have not noticed any yet. I have seen my turtle a lot, and a bunny I named Cheeky. I have not even seen my big black king snakes, or the speckled ones yet. I hope they come back and get rid of any copperheads or other poisonous snakes. I do see lots of birds and butterflies and other bugs.

Tess--I have always loved toads too! We have one that hangs out outside our front door at night. Must be the bugs that attract him. (Funny, I always think of toads as being 'him's)

I agree with Carolyn, evidence of toads & frogs mean you have a healthy environment, especially frogs, right? They are amphibians and are very sensitive to pollutants.

I have to be very careful where I step in the early morning on the deck. Toads are everywhere and I'm usually barefoot. Had a tree frog on patio door window this morning.

I have plenty of toads...they were living in a large area we planted with new grass seed....we took plenty of time mowing it so they could hop out of the way. I would much rather have plenty of toads to help eat bugs and those pesky mosquitoes....our mosquitoes are terrible this year with all the rain we are getting...

I love the toads too! I don't get to see them as much since we don't have the cabin in the country. At our shop where I work, they are around but stay mostly by the water. I wish I had one here in my garden, they are fun to see and do they ever eat the bugs!
