Hi, several of our tomato plants have started to turn yellow, started with the leaves, and now some of the branches too, within the last several days.
Is it a sign of possibly over watering? (my husband thinks I watered them too much..) Or something else? I know, it's hard to pin point the exact cause...

Overwatering will definately turn the leaves of most plants yellow Melissa. If the stalks too are now yellowing then I really don't know if the plants can be saved. :(

Melissa in what direction is the yellowing occurring? Bottom to top? All leaves at the same time?

I inherited a few beans plants that are quite yellow as well and I seriously suspect they were overwatered . Lets see what happens to them once i put them on a strict water diet :)

I am going to go out an check them in a few minutes. But, it looked like the lower leaves were turning yellow first, then moving up.
I'll check the leaves for spots and such too. And of course I'll check how moist the soil is. How far down should I look? A few inches?
I hope they can be saved! I'd hate to start over with new ones, and I know my husband would say to forget it and wait till next year...

If the leaves are turning yellow from the bottom Melissa then I would say it was due to over zealous watering I'm afraid. :(

    Melissa1982,

If the bottom leaves turned yellow and then moved up the plant then it is very likely that your plant has a magnesium deficiency. You can put epsom salts in the water or use as a foliar spray. The yellow leaves probably will not turn green but any new growth will be green.

Well, 1 is about dead, and two more not far behind. One of them has quite a few green fruits on it, and I want to know if I should snip them and keep them on the vine? Will they eventually ripen? Or not?
I might get one new plant and put it in a pot with all new soil.
I found out my grandparents had poor tomatoes the last few years in this garden bed...So, next year, there will be some improvements being done!
