Has anyone grown tomatoberry cherry tomatoes? are they worth the cost of them? When you start ordering a lot of seeds, you think twice about another $10-20.00 for a variety.
Had to Google them for I thought you were joking. They are so very cute. What will they 'thunk' of next?? Barb in Pa.
A hundred seeds is $23.50. I don't mean to sound like a cheap skate, but my order is a huge order as it is, I really don't want to spend this much if they aren't as good as they say they are. Otherwise I don't mind and have seed stock for a few years with this quantity.
Hey C, That is co-incidence--I was just looking at those last night while I was researching spuds to order for the coming season. It was odd, but my spud supplier featured them on his website. Funny little things--those. They are as small as a pea! The spud guy sells them for 1,90 euro's per bag of 25 seeds. I am not going to order them, as I can only grow a couple of kinds with any success due to the presence of Phytophthora in our area, but I did find them curious. I shall watch this thread to see if anyone has some info for you.
Thanks S, maybe I'll find a small quantity and order them anyway. They are a lot more than I would normally spend on a tomato seed. If I do buy them I'll have to sell them in individual pots instead of cell packs for the season or maybe not and only produce them for my market.
Carolyn, Totally Tomatoes offers Tomatoberry Garden Hybrid at 10 seeds for $3.95, or two packets (20 seeds) for $7.25. They are on page 33 of the paper catalog, but I'm sure you could find them in the on-line catalog also. Their shipping charges are pretty stiff, but perhaps you could combine an order with a friend or neighbor. We do that up and down the road here, and also share the seeds!
Thanks Jane, I do order from TT, but I really want to know if anyone has tasted/grown them and thought they were worth the cost. I spend a lot of $$ on seeds and tags, but I have to watch closely to not be wasteful with the $$. I still have all my potting mix, pots and flats to purchase yet. I am saving for a remodeling project and I hate to fritter away the $$ that I have saved on a few seeds here and there. But I suppose I probably will end up ordering a small pack at least to give them a try and that way I will know if they are worth the price next year.
How tiny are they again ?? Have you checked the seeds on ebay ? Almost anything I want that is not part of the norm here,,I can find on ebay.
Mart, they are not tiny, I think. The catalog says similar to a strawberry in size. I was wondering if any one has eaten them, Are they as good as the catalog says they are?
Say Carolyn--what is the Latin name of the tomatos that you are considering? Is it, Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium... or a different one? I am now wondering if am thinking about the wrong tomato. I looked at the name you quoted and if I translate it to Dutch, it would be the same. Now I am not sure at all anymore.
S, I am not sure about the latin name. It only says Tomatoberry Garden Hybrid. Sorry. I'll look further to see if I can find it. looking.... looking....still not seeing anything that refers to latin name other than... Genus: lycoperiscon. Species: Lycoperisicum and Genus: tomatoberry garden hybrid
Thanks Jane, I googled for a latin name, but didn't come up with much.. maybe should have googled scientific, huh? I didn't find anyone who had any input on taste. Someone commented it outproduced the grape tomatoes in their garden, but they hadn't gotten any ripe ones yet at the time of the posting. So, as of now I will just order a pack of 10 seeds and grow them just for myself. So I can taste them for myself.
Not to worry S, I will buy the seeds and try them. But only a small packet of seeds. Then I'll try to remember to let you all know if they were worth the exorbitant $$.
