Anyone dealt with a 6 year old after tonsil surgery? Mom had to go back to work so I've had Nicholas for 2 days. Can't get him to eat. He will drink milk and water, but thats all. I've tried all the usuals to no avail. The crocidile tears are breaking my heart. I rather pull weeds, it's much easier. moderator's note: moved topic to more appropriate forum
My oldest was 13 when her tonsils had to come out. She did the usual whining about nothing to eat and wanted a bean burrito from Taco so bad!!! So we bought one, put in the blender for a while until it turned in a soupy goo, put in a glass with a straw and she worked on that for quite a while swallowing sips until she had it all gone. If he can drink milk and water, try that with something he really likes it just might work.
As I remember, dealing with loosing my tonsils, water, milk, jello, and ice cream. Something I have not had since I was little, 'Cream of Wheat', I don't know if they still make the stuff any more. Jerry
Gum, Gum, Gum...Keep it in his mouth. It keeps him swallowing so his throat stays lubricated. I let Caity chew as much gum as she wanted and popsicles, but real fruit ones not the sugarwater pops. Good luck. I hope he fells well soon.
Just thought of something that happened about a week after my youngest's surgery. Something to be aware of just in case. She was on the road to recovery, eating soup and milkshakes again and had gone to spend the night with her Gramma. She started coughing up a bit of blood during the night, we called the Dr. and he said it was the scab coming off. Normally it sloughs off without any notice but in about 10% of the patients it does bleed a little. That was 32 years ago but I think he told her to gargle with salt water and sit up for about an hour and keep an eye on her. So there we are her grandparents, Randy and I sitting there at 3 a.m. keeping an eye on her. It stopped like he said it would and she went back to bed.
Nicholas will begin to eat as soon as the pain in his throat lessens I'm sure. The gum is a good idea and one that does help. Gargling with boiled, cooled and salted water will stop any infection setting in. He'll want to be spoiled for a feww days yet but will soon bounce back.
