Last evening we went to a Writer's Guild Meeting. It was cloudy and supposed to rain but you never can tell around here. It could rain a mile down the road but not here. One of the member's wife called and said he should head for home because a bad storm was a coming this way. We all packed up and left quickly. It was beginning to rain as I pulled out of the parking lot. A mile down the road, the rain was coming down so hard I could only see a bit of the road in front of me. I could have pulled over and waited but who knew how long it would last. There wasn't too much wind, you couldn't see the trees swaying in the breeze. Of course, I couldn't see the trees either. I drove the whole 10 miles home, just crawling along about 35 to 45 mph. The only traffic I encountered was behind me. A car was following me so close at times I couldn't see the headlights. If I had slid in the rain soaked roads the car would have hit me. No way they could have missed.I was really happy to get off the highway on to our side road, mud and all. Do you know that as we were approaching the road where we have to turn I was wondering how I would see it. All at once the rain let up and it got lighter and there was my corner. Once around the corner the rain came back, but not quite as hard as it was on the highway. I was really happy then for two reasons. The other car didn't turn and I made it home and into the driveway. I sat in my chair for an hour shivering inside. I was truly happy to be home. So, was dr. He worries as much as I do because he's not driving it.
So glad you made it home safe & sound, Dooley, you're so brave! (I myself haven't even got a driving licence, for the simple reason that I'm scared of just about anything )
Glad you made it home albeit shivering from nerves. We were driving the heavy rain east of Dallas on Hwy 80 for quite a while with winds that were trying to turn our little Chevy S10 pickup either over or make us go north instead of west. We checked the weather radar app on Randy's iPhone so we could tell it was moving over us fairly quickly.
I'm so pleased you both made it home safe and sound. I just hope that other car didn't cause an accident with anyone else on the road. Imagine driving as close to you as they did - no common sense!!
Dooley, so happy you made it home safely, even though you had a scary time of it. Toni, glad your pick-up held the road. We had a DPS Corporal who did public announcements, and he'd say, "Be careful or your vee-hickle will swop ends witcha." That was such a graphic description! We had 1/10th of an inch of rain, and a bit of wind.
