On Channel 8 right now, I am watching a tornado on the ground going from southwest to northeast across almost downtown Dallas. soon to be going north a very few miles to the east of me.

It touched down and cut thru some densely populated areas. You could see debris flying up and around all over the place.
For a while there was a second rotation developing in the wall cloud but it hasn't formed a funnel or tornado so far.

Right now it is going up the Dallas North Tollway, pretty much following the highway. That could be really bad since that is a very heavily traveled highway at this time of the day. But the funnel has pulled back up into the cloud, a couple of points are hanging down so there could be more touchdowns.

Netty, my 23 yr old daughter gets panicky when the weather turns bad. I knew she was watching the same TV channel I was so I was waiting for her to come in....she showed up hugging one of her stuffed animals to make sure we were not in the line of fire from it.

The storm system has moved way to our north east now and is just a heavy rain storm.

They figure the wind speed of the tornado was around 100 miles per hour.
The funnel was going up and down, in and out of the clouds, not all the damage reports are in but it looks like most of the residential areas were missed because the funnel was up above rooftop level when it went over most of those areas..
There is a warehouse/industrial area just west of downtown Dallas that has quite a lot of damage. Also, so far no reports of injuries to people either.
It also sped on the ground right across Love Field Airport missing the terminal by a few hundred feet and the airplanes that were sitting at the gates.

It was quite eerie to watch that tornado skipping along thru the city. Back in 1957, Channel 8 was also able to get video of a major tornado that did slice thru downtown Dallas more on the south side.

Now there is a problem that the Trinity River might crest higher than the levee and cause some flooding to a housing area to the west of downtown Dallas.

There was also a large wall cloud with multiple vortices in the far southeast corner of Dallas county, only two actually formed funnels and one of those did hit the ground causing some damage.

What an experience, Toni. I am glad that you seem to be out of harm's way with that tornado. let's hope the river will behave now.

    Take care.

This seems to be the result of Hermine. We were lucky here in Central Texas--some flooding to the southwest of us, but all we got was about 3 1/2 inches of rain.
Toni, do you have a safe place to go and hide in case of tornadoes?

I was worried about any of the folks in central and north Texas. We only got about 3 inches of rain from Hermine. Hope everyone is okay and didn't get blown away or flooded.

I can't imagine what it would be like to witness a tornado. Thanks for the update Toni.

The damage wasn't nearly what it could have been since the tornado did a lot of what they call touch and go jumps. Touching down in one location but pulling back up and traveling a while before touching down again. Plus it stayed in the cloud while it passed over the residential areas and when it was traveling up the tollway.

    Toni,
Thank heavens you were an observer and not a participant in the tornadoes that touched down in Dallas!
Dooley, like you, we got rain, needed and appreciated rain, but no damage. The flooding was to the southwest of our area (but our pond is 'way UP) and did considerable damage to homes and businesses. Of course, when you build in a flood plain . . . .
